Wow, I really wasn't expecting much of this movie. I hadn't even heard of it till it hit the shelves at Blockbuster, and even then I was hesitant to pick it up till I saw its stellar reviews on IMDb.

In my opinion, it's a great, non-traditional film with one heck of an action sequence towards the end.

Anyone else see it yet? If not, I highly recommend it.

Yeah, I saw it over Christmas break. It's a fucking fantastic movie. Really sad though.

It's REALLY amazing when you watch it at 1080i/p

One of the few movies that I highly recommend for HDDVD. The movie itself is one of the most original stories i've seen in a while, even though the movie is drastically different then the book they both have the same feel and similar stories.

i believe the book is better, but the story of the movie is far from original. I highly enjoyed the movie regardless, it was beautifully shot and wonderful acting

The movie in 720P on standard DVD on my 42" plasma TV looked just fine to me. :P (BTW, my DVD player can upconvert to either 720P or 1080i and I choose 720P. Good choice?)

I really liked the long shots, particularly the van scene about 30 minutes in and the battle scene at the movie. The one at the end is - I think - about nine minutes worth of uncut footage. There is a part where blood appears on the camera lens and suddenly disappears, but it was removed digitally (meaning it was all one shot).

I didn't really think it was all that good. imdb had it at 8.1 which is pretty high, so maybe I was expecting too much going in. I thought it was alright, but maybe I missed some key concepts.

Everyone that is good dies, their "friends" betray them, and it just ends with the kid and mom getting 'rescued'.

So do you not like movies unless they all follow the same happy, predictable pattern? I generally enjoy movies that stray from that style. Even with all the bad that occurred in the movie, it ended with a sense of hope. Not the traditional happy ending, but a happy ending nonetheless.

I figured someone would respond with that.

I just didn't particularly like this movie, I watch plenty of movies that don't fall into a cookie cutter pattern and like some and don't like some, this one I didn't like, that is all.

I can agree to some degree, although the ending scenes were amazing, it seemed over the top. It felt like the beauty of some independent films with a lot of money thrown at it. Thats where it changes from a good movie to just an entertaining one.

Fair enough; to each his own.

I just watched this a few days ago. And I have to say, the movie contains some of the most impossibly hard continuous shot scenes I have EVER seen. They're really quite remarkable.

I was taken by the long takes as well. This film's exquisite camera work even outdid, in my mind, the 3-minute shot that begins Touch of Evil, the long take at the beginning of The Player, and most of Brian di Palma's long takes, too.

Still doesn't hold a candle to Russian Ark, though.
