is it a true equalizer or is it just a level detector? My old boss had one in his office (he had a bunch of random junk he thought was cool) and it wasn't a true equalizer, it just detected like 4-6 discrete levels and had corresponding bar levels, IE for the same sound level, there was always the same 'freq spectrum' displayed, no matter what frequencies were actually being played. With the techno music they are playing, it is difficult to determine if this is true or not.

desipte what cylord said, in this video it appears to be based on levels rather than true equalization. the following video makes it seem even more apparent:

well i'm not really sure if it is or not, i don't doubt you, but i just think the one in the video looks like its based on volume
