I have to do an assignment over people's current knowledge of the national debt, and I need help.
I have two questions for anyone that reads this and is willing to help me.

1. Give me your best educated guess at what the current debt is at.(please don't look this up before you answer, because I am working with the point that people aren't knowledgeable about this topic, also I need a numeric value.)

2. On a scale of 1 to 10 how worried are you about the debt. (10 being very worried)

Thanks to anyone who posts here and helps me.

*Ahem* First to make an ass of himself.

I'm going to go with 10 trillion off the top of my head, but I really don't know.

One a scale of 1-10, I'd say a 7.

~20 trillion, 5 (less concerned about the amount than the fact that we aren't trying to pay it off)

Between 4 and 6 trillion, and 7 on a 1-10 scale.

Upwards of 200 billion.

Worry level - Um, I'm gonna say 2 because I know nothing about what having a huge national debt means for me, besides taxes.

And remembering I have little knowledge of these things, who exactly are we indebted to? Are they suddenly gonna say, "Pay up or suffer" or are we just gonna keep going more into debt because no one has yet asked to be paid back? Methinks the US needs deadlines like any of its citizen workers and students.

The government doesn't have to worry about being in debt, they are the government. They can just pass a bill and eliminate their debt.
