Considering the two choices, anyone have any experience with either?

I took Cpe311 with Beetner.
I am trying to think of what to say about the class.
Homework wasn't so bad, just took time.
Tests were super fair.
You get to learn to use programs on the linux lab computers to actually design chips, that could be sent out and made onto a die. I can get the program names if you want.
Our class final project was groups of 3, design a UART.
It took about two weeks of sitting in front of a computer everyday.
Take it if you are interested on IC's, processor achitecture, and memory.
I took it as my first 300 level class as a junior, and did well. I may have the book too.

I was told by lots of people that learning from Dr. Cox is hard, so I have avoided a class with him.

Cox is a special instructor. If you can understand his rhetoric, you'll do extremely well. If not, you are SOL. 311 is one of the classes I was looking forward to taking if I had stayed in EE. From what I understand, Beetner is one of the best instructors in EE, and is very WYSIWYG / no BS.

Hope that helps.

Unfortunately, Joe'SS does not say that beetner will be teaching it. Instead, staff.
I don't know that any other prof's have taught it.
If you care enough, just go ask him, he would tell you.

I might switch into it next semester if I find out beetner is teaching it, but I decided to go with Digital Image Processing after talking to my advisor (Dr. Cox). I've heard that Agarwall (I think) is probably teaching it again and that he is ridiculously demanding and not a good teacher to have.

I have him right now for Electronics II and I can't stand his teaching. His homeworks are never prepared for, for example if you go to get homework help from him, he's never done it so everything you do he's just like "Well I haven't done it, but it looks ok" and then it is totally wrong.

Out of 6 homework assignments this semester, only ONE (the first) has not had any major mistake when he's worked it out to go over after we turn it in (aka his key is always wrong until we correct him). Two of the homeworks would not even work until he changed the parameters, one of which I spent about 3 hours researching and trying to figure out only to find out he never did the problem and didn't realize none of the components and heatsinks he chose fit the parameters of the problem. His explanations is like "well this is a good example of how sometimes in the industry the problem you're told to solve doesn't have an applicable solution bullshit bullshit bullshit".

I can't stand his teaching and of the other two courses I want to take next semester, he is also teaching: High Freq Amplifiers and Advanced Electronic Circuits.
