I will be taking Physics 23 starting this fall. A bit nervous about it.

Any tips, tricks , or advice on getting through it?

Extra books to buy, software, etc?

I didn't really enjoy the class much, but apparently that's just me... several people I know loved physics classes so much that they took the same ones a second or even a third time!...

I only went half of the time and got a B, just don't miss your boardwork or labs and you will be fine

or clicker questions... I think 23 had them, they can add up to a lot of points

I had to work my butt off.
That was before I knew how to study.
Go to the PLC.
Spent MANY hours doing the homework, but I am not as smart as everyone else is.

I second the PLC. Its a great place to get help with homework and make sure your doing it in the correct format.

Also, don't ever wait till the last minute to do your physics homework. Get it done right after class, even if it looks simple... it still will take more than an hour + to finish it and that time goes up when you start getting into more advanced topics later in the semester.

Psh, boardwork was easy. Print out the solutions manual, trim the page, stick it inside the physics book, do some moderate reading in the book so you can BS about the problem long enough to frustrate the prof/whatever and he ends up just giving you an A or B.

I won't say I did this, but it is helpful, unless the professor gets smart (my 24 teacher photocopied the problems so you couldn't take anything up with you).

The PLC is helpful for some, but try it out. I hated it, I just ended up using the solution guides or study groups. But to each his own.

Boardworks and clicker questions are ESSENTIAL.

Go over as many previous tests as humanly possible, but chances are you will still be caught off guard on the tests.

Good luck. Phys 23 was probably the HARDEST class I've taken at this school and I was STOKED to come out with a B.

But what's really going to kick your ass is that when you're in it bitching about how hard the homework is, your future professors assume that you know everything taught in that class, especially relating to kinematics and statics. I know when I was done I was double pissed, one for it being tough, and one for realizing that I had actually learned more in that class than anything else ever.

Also: Go to the PLC. You are not that cool. You are not a special smart snowflake, just suck it up and do it.

Write down what you know. Write down what you need to know. Assemble the provided formulas in such a way that you get what you need to know from what you do know. Physics, solved.
