Does anyone know of a range that holds competitions near rolla here, whether it be pistol or smallbore or cowboy. So long as it is not skeet or trap or a meat shoot.

The Rolla Shooting Club is owned by some UMR professors (I think) and is currently building a cowboy shooting range. They do have skeet ranges, but also a pistol range and a 250 yard rifle range. I'm anxiously awaiting the cowboy action range, of course that means I'll have to buy a Colt Single Action Army or a clone therof. Oh darn
The Rolla Shooting Club is $100/year for one person or $120/year for a family membership.

Does the Rolla Shooting Club have a website or something? Who should I get in contact with? Where is it located? I've been wanting to get into a real shooting range around here, and COPS is probably too far away for how often I would go.

The Rolla Shooting Club doensn't have a website that I know of. I was informed about it while at the gunsmith, Harris & Co. Outfitters. He's a few miles out of Rolla on 10th street, it's like the basement of his house. He's open after 5 I think monday to thursday, and not sure when on Saturday.
A few miles past country mart on 10th street (BB) you'll pass a few clusters of houses, and then on the left keep a watch for a sign set off the road in front of a house, saying "Harris & Co. Outfitters" and when you see that, turn around because you won't be able to stop in time :P
Turn in that road there, and then pull around behind the house. There will be an open/closed sign on the door.
If you hit a big S curve on the road, and then see the sign for Smokey Acres gun store on the right, you went too far.

I don't know what protection a door offers against stuff along the .38/9mm line but i know a .45 ACP will go in and out of a pickup truck and will go in a side by side refrigerator, through the center divider, and leave a nice dent on the outside of the other side. It'll also go through a refrigerator compressor that my .38+p's were bouncing off of.

I've seen both 9mm and .45 bounce off a car door before. That's why I'm wondering about this hot Israeli +P+ stuff. I have heard from people who have been in real gunfights that hiding behind a car is a really bad idea - you'd be better off running away from the car and going prone. Cars draw fire and don't (reliably) stop anything more than some pistol calibers. Of course, if you need to shoot someone in a car who is shooting at you, your pistol calibers won't (reliably) penetrate into the car either.

i tried to go out to the shooting range today and i drove all the way down 6020 until it loops back to 63 and I didn't see a range. is there a sign or landmark that indicates a gravel road to go down?
