I would agree with that if you're looking for straight-line preformance. Handling has never been a mustang strong point, to where a civic would be a good learner car. Not enough power to kill yourself with, but enough to make you learn how to take a line and distribute the power evenly.
I've always heard that if you can master a small, underpowered car, the easier it is to handle large amounts of power.

I agree that it hasnt been a great point, but a civic or something wasn't built for that at all. I guess I just feel like if a car can't even get out of its own way, then it won't do you any good. Yes, you can go in and out of corners very well, but that is not the only thing you do on ANY course. There is always going to be sections where you will be glad you have the horse power.

A car would be more fun if you knew how to exploit its full potential. Regardless of how long you have been driving, unless you have some experience in a type of professional racing competition (professional excludes street racing, and some types of drag racing), there is always something you can learn. You can easily get another $5000 in a year or two, and by then, you will have a better idea of what to work towards. Sure it puts off the thrills of aggressive driving for a time, but like I said before, it will be worth it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!
In a YEAR OR TWO???? When somebody challenges you, do you say, "give me two years ... and then it's ON!"
When someone challenges me I laugh at them and walk away. This isnt fucking fast and the furious. Racing isnt something you just do. Respect the sport, keep it on the track, and dont kill yourself.

Quit being a douchebag. I am not spouting out suggestions just to keep the thread going, I actually have a point behind what I am saying. IIRC, the author of the thread said he wanted to find out more about cars. Since he is intending on taking it on a curvy track, I assume the learning involved is more about control and handling than mechanics under-the-hood. I recommended a driving school because it is the BEST way to learn about handling, control, and pushing the physical limits of a vehicle on a track.

Thanks for the suggestion, I really do appreciate it. I have a buddy who's sponsored by Carlos Slim to race and is working his way up the F1 scale, so I'll most likely learn from him, though. My concern is to learn as I build and drive.
