Hey Guys,
I'm going to visit my girlfriend in New Mexico from the 18th to the 21st and I need a ride to the St. Louis airport. My flight leaves on Thursday, February 18th at 4:55pm, so we'd need to leave here around 3-3:30 pm. I have no problem paying for gas/snacks and I listen to just about any music. Any takers?

Hate to be a buzz kill... but you'll want to leave earlier than that. Its at least an hour and 45 min to Highway 270 from I-44 and then you'll have to fight your way northbound on 270 with work traffic. Plus, you'll definitely want to be an hour early for your flight/check in.

Just to be safe... I would try to leave around 12:30 -1 pm.

it takes 45 minutes to 1.5 hours to get through security at STL, Antster63 is right.

Okay, so leaving time is definitely pushed forward to 1 pm.

I don't think I've ever waited more than 10 minutes in security at STL. I'd still leave early enough to allow for a longer wait at security, just bring something to entertain yourself with in case you get through in 10 minutes and have to kill time at the gate.

Did you maybe fly out of the east terminal?

I've flown out of both (I've been through all the checkpoints at STL except for the B concourse which I think is Airtran and other airlines I wouldn't fly on a dare) and never had a long wait, maybe I've just been lucky.

I'd say you were lucky. I dropped my mom off for a flight 1 hour before departure, and she got to her terminal just as loading started, about 45 minutes later. That was at about 8:00am.

I flew out of STL on Southwest (not sure what terminal.. looked like the Up in the Air one) and was through in 20 minutes or so.

That's all fine and dandy, but seriously, anybody offering a ride?

I work up at the airport (mostly weekends, but it varies) and it usually takes me between 1:40 and 2:00 hours to get there from Rolla. BTW devil, I've flown on Airtran, it's not that bad. However, every flight from STL has a connection in ATL, which almost always equals a delay or cancellation. Personally, I would rather take Southwest...

Airtran used to be ValuJet who had a less-than-stellar safety record. I'd probably fly them if I'd had no other choice, but I'd prefer not to. My favorite is Southwest (and Lufthansa, but that's only for international. The Germans know how to make flying not suck), and any day you can avoid the clusterfuck at ATL is a good day.

The east terminal is almost exclusively Southwest. There's one or two other small ones - I think, but It's much nicer than the regular terminal (aka not such a clusterfuck)

Yeah, the east terminal is a lot nicer. And there are actually people there so it doesn't look like a ghost town like the main terminal. Last time I flew out of STL I was on United and it was just depressing over on their side. It was dirty, drab and empty.
