Sorry I don't have more specifics, but from an email a friend of mine got (he is on SAFB) the Miner is suing UMR for violation of freedom of the press since SAFB cut there funding for the up coming year. I am looking for a link or something now.

Cutting a budget does not limit what kind of material they can print. It only cuts how much of it they can do. All newspapers have a budget, and if they have to cut it they cut it. The miner needs to quit bitching and try to find other ways to save money like not paying to print comics, or only do black ink or something.

This is Michele Martin at her best. Which also happens to be the worst. I feel i can honestly say that if she would have not shown up to any of the SAFB/StuCo Proceedings, the Miner would have had it's budget restored. Or she could have at least arranged for someone to motion an increase for them.

The only time you see the Miner in full color is when some company has paid for a full color ad. By buying just 1 full color ad, the company agrees to pay the extra color fees for that entire page.

The Miner is full of winey bitches. Michelle Martin threatened to sue the UMR Solar House Team for copyright infringment if we did not take their articles off our website. Turns out they can do this, and we had to take their stuff down.

b) Goto campus build machine

c) copy said PDF into your "w" drive on campus build machine

d) change name(s) to pdf_n.pdf

e) provide link web.umr.edu/~email_user_name/pdf_n.pdf

I don't think there is going to be an official school newspaper very soon.....I mean, why would the university want to maintain a paper that sues them? Maybe I don't know legal procedures that well.

These morons fail to realize that even if they win this lawsuit and get their funding restored to normal, they're going to have to pay outrageous lawyer and court fees and will be worse off financially than they would be if they just accepted the cut and STFUed.

Yeah the part about cutting funding to force them to meet UMR standards is absolute bullshit. If anything they are cutting their funding to make them meet UMR level english and grammar skills. This is absolutely appalling in my opinion. They should have just cut all the funding. That would meet my standards. I doubt anyone, except those that work at the miner, would miss that paper if it were to go. Honestly they have an online paper anyway. Why do they need money.

So the miner wants more money... Do the students even HAVE to fund the paper? Because it is the STUDENTS who pay for the printing of the paper, and isn't STUCO the representative body of UMR students? and the voice of the students, and if the students want the paper which is printed for them to have better content, and be better edited have the right to cut the funding to their paper?

Also did anyone else notice the "editorial" mistake in the Unconstitutional Actions pdf? its in the remedy part "aga in" I think they mean again but what do I know Im not an English major.

If the school said cut all the funding for the Miner, would that be unconstitutional, because as far as I know you can stop giving your money to say a charity if you dont agree with their use of the money.
