I've got a gateway laptop running vista. There's a slot on the front of the computer that definitely recognizes 2gig SD cards and lower, but when I put a 4gig card in, there's no recognition at all. From what I've gathered, vista simply doesn't support it by default. Does anyone know of a fix for this?
You can update the drivers and if you're lucky, it will work, but the 4 gig card is likely SDHC and the reader probably only does SD. I don't think there's a software way to upgrade SD to SDHC, I believe it's a hardware thing.
USB SDHC readers are cheap though, I got one from NewEgg for around 15 bucks.
That's correct. SDHC compatibility is hardware-related. I just ordered this one for $4.61 shipped. Slow shipping, but it supports SDHC as well as microSD and miniSD without adapters (and a few others as well).
