I am trying to set up my wireless router and am having troubles. Are there any special settings I need to set to be able to access the Internet through my router in the rc?

your gonna need to disable dhcp on it... IT does not like it when there is a router assigning IP addresses on their network... I once had an issue with that and they kepy disabeling my jacks. apparently my router was assigning rouge ip addresses back out through the wan port... other then taking dhcp off you should be good to go

In my fraternity I always set up people's personal routers:
- Static IP: write it down so you can manually change your computer's settings to the same subnet. use a 192.168.2.x address, not the campus's 131.151.x.x scheme
- Disable DHCP
- Don't use the WAN port, just the switch ports. You lose routing capabilities, but then anyone can connect to your wireless and instead of being on your router's WAN MAC address, it will identify the individual user's PC MAC. Keep you from getting into problems if someone uses up your bandwidth or torrents.

forgive my ignorance, but I have no idea how to do anything that you guys just told me. My router is a D-Link dir-615. This is the first router I've ever set up, and I can't tell if it is my ignorance or the school network or whatever that is preventing me from connecting to the Internet. I can see and connect to the wireless connection or Ethernet port, but I can not get any access to the Internet. If there is some other setting I have to have could you please let me know.

Yeah, I have dhcp disabled, and I'm not sure exactly what settings I should use for a static ip. Thus the reason I am asking again.

ADMIN EDIT: Let's stop posting as anonymous... it's making the admin stabby.

You have DHCP disabled. Are you still getting a 192.168.x.x IP address? And have you plugged the ethernet cable between the router and the wall in to one of the 1-4 ethernet ports (not the WAN port)?
