you are not going to get a high speed line out of rolla.you can pay for a frame relay and not get it.
• Downstream speed of up to 3Mbps
• Upstream speed of up to 384Kbps
From sprint.$29.95 for 6 months, then $41.95 per month; plus get free standard installation
But you will not really get 3Mbps except in the summer, unless they have changed something big time.
I know this is an old post, but I thought I'd share some information I came across. Fidelity just increased the speed of their cable modems in the "Just-perfect" plan from 512/128 to 1024/256.
I tested it out by grabbing a file from the UMR Mandrake mirror, and actually got near one megabit.

Are those prices for rolla? The cheapest we can get for 1.5 megabits is $50 a month according to sprints website. If we could get 3 Mbps for $42, we would be very happy. Here in the STL area we have charter, about $40 a month I believe, 3 megabit cable modem. It is GREAT. I have gotten a 360 kilobyte per second download of 40 megs. It started at that and only went up (stopped going up at 370 something). We had our internet shut off for the summer, so if we could get something that cheap and fast, it'd be nice.
Edit: The $50 a month is for a 1 year contract, month to month is $75 according to the website. That is re-friggin-diculous. Though, fidelity was more than sprint even!

- where is fidelity's office?
- how long does it take for them to come out and "install?" or can you
get them to just give you the modem and let you hook it up yourself.

The buisness office is on Highway 72. It's about two miles away from the stoplight at 63/Bishop. Look for the BreakTime filling station on the right as you drive from Bishop. It's just past that.
It's really not that hard to install a cable modem yourself. The only piece of moderately exotic equipment a field tech has is a signal meter. Everything else is standard RG-6, a signal filter, F connectors, and crimpers.
Registration is an entirely different story. If it's not already entered, the tech will have to call in the MAC address of your cable modem to get it activated. Could you do it yourself? Sure, but good luck explaining why a tech isn't calling in. Of course, that's assuming you've already achieved the impossible in getting them to hand over a cable modem in the first place.
I went in today for information as I'm moving our cable modem from one room to another. When I talked to the chick at the front desk, she told me the soonest they can have a tech out at a house would be around Thursday of next week (the 26th). They're booked pretty solid since everyone is reactivating service right now.
A word of advice: when the modem is installed, make sure you won't need to move it a few months from now. When my roommate came back from summer break, he wanted the modem and the (rather noisy) router out of his then-unoccupied bedroom. Fidelity will charge you $40 to send a tech to move a wire and a line filter! I would've done it myself, but they've got a little plastic lock as a tamper indicator.
hahahaha, you have to be kidding me... oh well, i guess ill just get in line to get raped by yet another broadband company.. although what is everyone's experience with sprint dsl around here?
