well, im getting frustrated on this damned dial up connection at home but im lucky since rolla is only 30 minutes away. i had the idea of getting ahold of my dads laptop and getting a wireless ethernet card and seeing if i can get onto campus (probably the library) and dl off of seek or the i2hub. i was thinking of hiding the laptop while i was at work and picking it up whenever i got off. would this work?

Wireless network from 30 miles away?

Only if we're talking satellite linkups. And as far as I know, that's a negative, too.

If there's stuff you need to download THAT badly, go to one of the CLCs and plug your 'puter in. After all, Rolla's only 30 minutes away, right?

he's talking about taking the laptop to the library and using the wireless access...start downloading, hide the laptop in the library, go to work, come back later and pick up said laptop

i say go for it...just pm where you're going to hide the laptop...you know, in case you forget  [sure, i'd drive 5.5hours for a free laptop]

note: "go for it" is entirely sarcastic...you're a tard if you'd take your dad's laptop and leave it unattended in a university library all day

I shoved foot in mouth. This is the part I didn't read.

Yeah. But PM me too, 'cause I'll be on campus.

Or you could park a near an access point (you can get reasonable signal quality in the lot behind the CS building) and leave the laptop inside the car. Might not work if you need the car to get to work though. Do you trust anyone in the dorms enough to leave it with them while you're at work?

Just a thought here. Why not ask somebody you know to download what you want for you and come by later with a crossover cable or a hub and get it off of them in just a few seconds. There is also the option of putting your hard drive in a trusted friends computer and download strait to your hard drive.

I don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but whenever I use campus wireless to download a large amount of files, or just large files, I get cut off from that access point. I can go connect to another one, but I can't reconnect to the first one for a while. So your plan probably won't work unless you are willing to try to run around to several campus locations.
