I'm thinking about updating my xp pro version with the sp1 update. Is the update really helpful or full of more problems???

Updating with SP1 would be a very good idea.

Jeebus!! People like these spread viruses! There are some very important updates in there...as well as following updates. SP2 comes out in August (crosses fingers)...I *HIGHLY* suggest you updating to that as well. I'll be updating ASAP so I know I'm not part of a security problem (well, to a lesser degree..I am using windows).

actually its for a computer that is not to be connected with the internet. I do mostly audio work on it and was hoping sp1 would make things run more smoothly. The only advantage I know right now is support for usb 2.0. My system is running great right now and really dont want to add something to cognate it. does sp1 change the performance at all? and also I was wondering if the process of changing the key to update to sp1 works ok for pirated versions?

you need to look this up for your self. You are going to have to change your key most likely. Look that up for your self.

i run xp sp1a because idiots like you don't update. you have to have xp sp1 to use the blaster patch, or the combobulation of the other security patches. you people make me sick.

You guys are really helpful. I now realize I should now update with sp1 b/c my internet non-connected computer is a threat to the rest of the world. And now I need to pay $200 for it? ha.I'm a poor college kid too.. You guys are a joke. Get your dicks out of each others floppies, meanwhile I'll go some where else for help.

If you're using the classic FCKGW-RHQQ2-blah blah blah serial that everyone used when they first pirated Windows XP, then yes you'll need to change your serial number in the registry. Just search here on Seek (connect through a VPN) or on the net, and you'll find one, along with instructions on how to use it. They'll usually come with a list of SP1 compatible serial numbers, and you'll just pick one of those to replace your current one.

every computer is a danger to every other computer because stupidity always spreads. Also you can pick up an sp1 cd from M$ for free. Back in Feb they would mail it to you and all you had to do was give an address.

you are a extra tard.you can get XP with SP1 for $68 bucks from the book store. You can put it on your student charge if you wanted. You can buy a buy an OEM key for $27. You can afford a computer, you can afford to go to school, you can afford student prices for your OS.
I mean fuck if you have a moral objection to paying Microsoft then use Linux. Be part of a solution not part of a problem.

Exactly! And to add to that...depending on what department you are enrolled in...you can get it for FREE....LEGALLY!!

Edit: Even though this machine is now not connected to the network...is there 100% sure that this machine will never ever in the life of that computer/OS install...it will never see the internet? With the price of networking falling, I'd bet that sometime, it'll see the net eventually. Be prepared for as much as you can.
