Ok... My computer has decided to rebel against me! It will start up and start running Bios BUT it only gets as far as checking for the drives. And then it just sits there. It won't go into setup either.

Does anyone have an idea of what the problem could be?

Sounds like the kind of problem a sledge hammer would fix.

try to get in setup asap, before loading drives. i've had some do that because of a bad hd/cd.
or it could be ram.
or it could be bios.
or it could be mb.
or it could be [fill in the blank].
i would check in that order.

have you tried to piss it off??

if you take the ram out, does it beep?
if you take the processor out...does it beep at you?
if you take the video card out...does it beep at you?

if you tried all three...and any of them do not beep..your board is farked...

Thanks Robertd for some advice... I did try and get into it before the drives but it wouldn't let me. My dad thinks it is the mb but he then has to find time to fix it for me before I go back to UMR in a month.

I will get right on that Patrick. Thanks for being a pal and giving me the advice I really really needed.

I believe "love tap" is the correct term. When I get mad at my shit, I throw it out of a 3 story window. Surprisingly fixed alot of things that way.

If you had a brain you would unplug your drives to see what happens.
then plug them back in one at a time.

Get out die grinder or screwdriver and remove side of case, either one works effectively. The proceed to make sure all of your plugs are properly seated. Also, if it's not detecting the drives, it could be as simple as a bad IDE cable.
If the drive itself is bad, you should either hear a clicking noise or scraping-like sound.

Thanks y'all Except Mr. Trunks. My dad fiddled with it because I don't know how to fix my computer.

Mr. Trunks--- seriously stop being an asshole and grow one! You really think that it is intelligent to piss off one of the few females at Rolla. Seriously, I found out who you are.... You are ruined.

Lamest threat ever. You think that just because you're a girl you have this mysterious power when you're in rolla. I don't know who you are.....but you sound like a ho.

i can vouch for these "3 story drop fixes". I've watched this person perform some of them. fixed a fan by throwing it at the ground from the 3rd story.

I believe I had told you...follow the questions. if you take each out...one boot-up at a time and the motherboard beeps accordingly, then you know your motherboard (or possibly other parts) isn't at fault.

Umm if you don’t know how to fix a computer, and you are not willing to “try” your self to fix it. Why are you asking other people what to do to fix it. If some one told you exactly what to do you still would not have done it.
