Ever use a program called "Direct Connect"? Well it's pretty much like kazaa, except that everyone is required to share some files. It's broken up into a several hundred hubs each with their own rules and themes...

Anime, Movies, PS2, ISO's... ect can be the theme for a entire hub group.

Some hubs require all the members to share 100 gigs, others as low as 1 gig. So the more you share the more you have access to.

Okay, now you have a idea of what Direct Connect is. Last year there was a thing going around showing how to connect to a fairly secret hub that uses the higher bandwidth connections between Universities and Goverment buildings.

It's called i2hub. You can read about it here: http://www.i2hub.com

i2hub and Direct connect ussually have the things that can't be found on Seek yet.

So when I got a new computer setup I had to reinstall the files to get access to i2hub again. I had to download a series of files that I'm now sharing @ \\Worseley\i2hub .(not shared anymore)

Install "dotnetfx" first, it has something to do with Microsoft's .NET Framework.

Second install "DCSetup-220" which is the actual direct connect program.

Third install "i2hub4031" which is the software needed to connect to i2hub.

After those are installed you need to set up your Direct Connect options. First is your name. You need to start your name out with the phrase " [UMR] " before your name and put what ever name you want after it. Example: mine is "[UMR]Worseley" This helps separate us from the other Universities on the hub.

The name is the hardest part. After that you need to put in your email address, go to the downloads tab and select where you want the files placed on your computer and on the sharing tab add any files you would like to share (remember it determines how many hubs you can join based on the amount shared) and remember to set the upload slots to 3-5 otherwise if you don't you'll have 10 computers connected to you.

Once that's done hit OK and you should be there. Remember that if you want to use Direct Connect itself then don't click on the i2hub icon, it's a separate program.

I forgot to mention that I'm able to get 150-300 kbps from all the files I'm getting from DC. Mine may be a little higher then those in the dorms since they have bandwidth caps in place for TJ and the Quad.

i was using it a lot over the summer (since after the spring session let out i suddenly became the number 3 sharer on seek) and it was going rediculous fast. i was pulling movies at around 1000 kbps from some users (but also as low as 10 kbps from others)

and i believe you only need 1 gig shared for the i2hub. i don't even bother with any other hubs, the connections are way too sketchy. at least on the i2hub you almost always get a great connection

Apparently it's faster than BitTorrent, so that's a plus. How is it on getting DMCA violations if you don't run IP filters and such?

a seek42 hub would be pretty redundant. i mean, why use direct connect to join a seek42 hub and search from a limited users who are

you kno what i'm saying

I recently went to a lan thing recently and DC++ was the official way to transfer files...it completely and utterly assrapes the computer when it uploads. the processor immediately goes to 100% on a 2GHz machine...needs patching.

Fark - Try a different client, get more memory, or enable dma on your drives because that has never happened to me.

I cant get it to work correctly.

Every time i try to connect it says my isp/ip is not allowed to connect to it.
I live off campus and have cable internet.
I would greatly appreciate any help on this.

I don't think you can connect to i2hub. It uses the network between college campus's. If your using fidelity then I'm pretty sure your not going to be able to.

It's a connection between college campus's.

i2hub is a great way to share files across campus like you would on seek42. Especially since no one can stream files over it.

I like the new i2hub. It's a completely new look, but it forces people to share more resouces.

the look completely fucked up everything i liked. where's my transfers? oh i have to OPEN the window now. where's my toolbar? oh i have to OPEN to toolbar now. and what's with the crappy upper window? and what's with the stupid "welcome" screen that cannot be closed?

but more importantly, what's with the 4 kbps transfer speeds that time out at 50% completion?

if it ain't broke don't fix it (or, TRY to fix it)
