Can anyone recommend a good external DVD or CD/DVD burner combo? I am looking for one, but I need an external because I will be sharing it with others.

Thanks in advance.

Just buy a dvd burner and then buy an external enclosure for IDE devices. You only pay about 2\3 the price and you get exactly what you want. I got mine off of newegg and it works pretty damn good.

Could you elaborate on this more, or provide a link so I can see what you're talking about? I'm kind of confused.

Ok, first find a DVD burner that you like and is in your budget. Such as this one.

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductde ... 623&DEPA=0

It can be any IDE (internal DVD Burner) drive. See where it says Interface: E-IDE? Thats what you need.

Then find an enclosure that you like. Like this one.

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDe ... 843&depa=0

Make sure it is a 5.25" IDE enclosure. You may want an aluminum one for more protection if its going to be doing a lot of traveling, one with USB 2.0 or Firewire, or whatever suits your application. Ive found that USB 2.0 works well with a 4x speed DVDR but im not sure about the faster ones.

Then when they arrive just put the two together. If you arent sure what you are doing, have someone down the hall help you. Its a pretty simple and usually self explanatory installation process.

And there ya go, one External DVDR drive.

How exactly would a 5.25" IDE drive fit into a 3.5" enclosure?
