sounds like there may be a glitch in the Os somewhere, probably due to the ripped nature of it. Just IMHO.

Frankly, seeing as how you cannot update ripped copies anymore, and without SP2 and the patches that come with it, you're likely to get booted from the network for having an exposed computer, I'd plunk down the $65 for a full copy from the bookstore. If you're short on cash, tell your parents you need an early christmas present. :)

???

I don't have SP2 (don't need it, I have my own firewall, use firefox, and have DirectX9.0C), and I'm still here.

Check with your department, you may be able to get a legit copy of XP for free or $10. I did.

I only say that because I have seen a number of people get booted for viruses or vulnerabilities, and they were cleared after installing SP2...oh well. :)

Yes you can install sp2 with bootlegged coppies. You just need to get a list of usable working CD keys. And there are things called security updates.

Brooklyn is right, I did. I have a ripped copy on my Mom's Computer, and it updated all the way to SP2 (newest upgrade yet). However, I am not impressed with the plethra of the computer-equivalancy of idiot lights that SP2 brings with it.

Yeah idiot lights! You can turn them all off but for those retards out there they are on by default.

I know that the Media Center version of Win XP isn't all it's cracked up to be, I have a friend that uses Medio, which has menus that are designed for TV interfaces.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but could some of you elarobrate a bit more on installing SP2 on a illegial XP? Such as where to get the SP2 to install on the illegial XP?

I've got a copy on my computer (originally off Seek) that hasn't yet been updated. I'd prefer not to get booted...
