Having used both Linux (Debian) and many different versions of Windows (3.11, 95, 98, ME, XP Pro) i would have to say that Linux is FAR more stable than any of the Windows operating systems. I used Linux for at least six months and can't specefically remember having my computer crash or lock up once, or get a virus. I've been using XP now for a few weeks and it crashes about once a week....i got the "blue screen of death" daily when i had ME on my old Dell.

However unless you are a comp sci chances are you will have a very hard time installing/using Linux and it is hard to survive in a Windows world.

Macs are cool, although i almost never use them. The single button mouse pisses me off though.

Mac's are suppose to be for "artists". [quote]
err, welcome to 1995? You are trying to apply an old methodology to a new age. Before OS X I had no reason to touch a mac. And not every artist uses Mia or 3D at all, look at your processing delay in OS X, vs. Direct x9 effects for audio. And you want to see a render hall ass, recompile it for the mac hardware your shit your self.

You can get macs with all kinds of mice and other interface devices depending on the package.

my 8 button (or however many it is, you lose count eventually) logitech mx700 mouse works perfectly on a mac with no software needed to make any of them work

I'm using a mac right now with a regular usb compaq 2 button/scroll mouse. I hate the touchpad on laptops.
