there are a lot of things you can do with a mounted filesystem that you cant do through an ftp client

and arent they trying to phase out insecure ftp access anyway?

and who uses the hostname rocket anymore? =)

I've tried typing \\samba.umr.edu\afsid under Run... in XP SP1, and I get the logon box, but it is ghosted and has the username set as Guest. Entering my password does not work.

there USED to be a helpdesk page that covered this, not anymore i guess... go to map network drive, and theres a checkbox that lets you use a different username and password

and i think youll still have to run the plaintext password registry fix, but its been a while since ive done it so who knows

who else has the link to your s drive. Why don’t you just invite some one to your room to do it for you.

I thought IT killed support for S drives because it was using unsecured passwords. That's the impression i got from the Secure computing whatever they call it.
