To anyone that enjoys paintball or military simulations I am trying to start an Airsoft team in the Rolla area. If you havent heard of Airsoft it is like paintball but I believe much better. I am more than willing to show you why. If anyone is interested please get in touch.
Airsoft kicks ass. I've got a nice Beretta 93R gas blowback sitting at home...too bad all the seals and stuff are fucked on the inside.
Me and some friends at home were going to get something going last year...but that never actually happened. I'd be in if I had a decently working gun or money to buy one.

Ok, show me why airsoft is better than paintball. Only reason I can think is because it's cheaper. Then paintball has its advantages over airsoft like...theres actual places where you can go and people are playing.

Truth be told, to start it is usually more expensive to play airsoft or close to the same price as paintball. The advantage for price is in the long run when you are not paying for gas and as much for ammo. Dont get me wrong I dont know as much as I should about paintball but I do know that any gun you buy in Airsoft is also highly upgradable starting at $50 and the sky is the limit or atleast 600 fps. And it is a step by step process so you spend what you want when you can.
I believe the real advantage is in game play itself. I have never had a problem finding a spot to play, any wooded area will do and there are still quite a few of those left, or an indoor facility works to for CQC and when you are done sweep up the bb's with a broom. It is true that it can be hard to find people to play with but that can be solved by starting a group of atleast ten people. True this can be hard becasue the average starting price for airsoft is $300, but depending on how much you play and how much ammo you use you could play for atleast 6 months without spending another dime.
Once you have a team I belevie that Airsoft is better. I always tell people one thing. "Paintball is a game, Airsoft is a simulation." Nothing agianst paintball it is a fun game and I used to play it alot and I probably still would but I will never give up Airsoft now. It all depends on your preference but would you rather run around barrels in a bright colored t-shirt with paint all over the place or stalk your pray with a M24 sniper rifle in a ghille suit? Or perhaps do CQC with an MP5, and a SPAS-12. Yes I know people play paintball in BDU's but do you enjoy getting the paint out of them? Would you wear your Blackhawk Tac Vest in paintball? Once agian whats your preference?
Also, there is a huge weapon selection in Airsoft. If there is a gun in real life odds are it is in airsoft. If it isnt it can be made. Do you want an assult rifle, a sniper rifle, a shotgun, pistols?? Do you want to shoot at full auto, semi, burst, or single? How about putting a grenade launcher on your M-16, or an entire rail system?
And all of these guns are exact replicas. If you buy an MP5 and then hit a gun show, if its made for an MP5 it should fit on your gun. You can end up having a almost full metal gun that is exactly the same. If you didnt know me and you were staring down the barrel of my M24 I bet you would be scared!!( And that is just an example, I dont suggest doing anything like that with airsoft!!)
In the end it is all about your prefence. Is something like paintball all you want to get out of the experience? That is fine, but you can get alot more out of airsoft!
If I can get a team started I welcome everyone to come out and give it a try. You can even use my guns. I bet you wont turn back. Thanks for your time.
This post isnt about saying Airsoft is better. I believe that it is, if you dont thats fine. I really think that anyone that plays paintball and tries Airsoft will really enjoy it though. Anyway, paintball is still a good game, but if your looking for something different or are looking to try something new this is the place.
I just got into Airsoft. So I guess you can go ahead and list me as someone interested.
I play paintball alot and airsoft is way cheaper in my opinion. Even though paintball and airsoft are so different you would probably get a decent response from the paintball players on campus. You may want to stop in on one of our meetings. We just formed as a club so it probably wouldn't be very hard to have it include Airsoft players too.
I just bought a Desert Eagle. .50 AE with all the bells and whistles. I think it's great.
For $50 you can buy enough Air and Rounds to last a long time. I get 175 clips for that price. I'm not exactly sure how fast I'll go through them, but I don't think I'll use more then 20 clips in a day of playing.
There isn't a point in comparing P-ball to Airsoft, it's nearly the same thing except for the type of guns used. That's it.

I guess I might not understand Airsoft very well..... how does one know when he has hit the other team? It seems like the BB's would be small, and you'd lose track of them easily in the air. Is it pure honor for the other person to call themselves out? Or does it hurt so much that when they're hit they will curse like a sailor for 10 minutes.

Airsof is based on the honor system. If you get hit you call yourself out. Depending on the distance and what gun you are being hit with it can feel like a bee sting or you might just hear it hit you. My M24 shoots at atleast 550 fps so if I would hit you inside of 20 yards you would be cursing like a sailor. Also if I am looking thru my scope I can usually see the bb hit my target.
if you guys really need a place to play, we have a partially built paintball field (actually going on 3 mini fields). Maybe throw in some man hours on the building or if you know any place to get some scrap wood, pallets, etc.
I don't know if you guys have played before but I bet its the same with airsoft. Just in the woods with no bunkerish things to hide behind is really lame.
Count me as interested, although I don't have a gun right now. I've wanted one for a while but haven't had the chance. Looking at several choices. If I get a co-op I want for next semester, I'm a definite for next year.

After I read your post I did a little research on the web and ended up ordering an airsoft P08 luger today. Too bad I don't have enough money left to buy bb's, propellent, and cleaning supplies. Let me know if you hold some sort of gathering. Also, can airsoft guns be kept in the dorms? Or is it one of those don't ask, don't tell policies.
