I still can't get it to work, it just repeatedly asks for password.....
You have to change a registry value for password security in XP. By default, XP encrypts passwords. Unix does not support this. I would tell you how to do it, but I dont remeber how.

enjoy.
You could at least give me credit for that one since you asked me on aim two days ago.
To map a drive to your AFS account you have to patch your system to allow plaintext passwords. Just go to \\samba\public\utils and run the file that is closest to your system. (XP uses the WIN2K patch). Then _reboot_ and map drive s: to \\samba\username ....use that 'use a different username' thing and put your afs username/password in.
...is that it lets windows send your password in the clear, which unfortunately is the only thing the braindead campus samba setup supports. If anyone snoops it (like if you're on a wireless connection), you're toast. Is there an AFS client for Windows XP that anyone has had luck with?
Alright, Since no one seemed to explain how to fix your password problem clearly, here ya go.
Open up "Local Security Settings" under "Administrative Tools" which if you dont have enabled, you can enable in your startmenu options under Customize. In "Local Security Settings", just go to "Local Policies" and "Security Options"
and scroll down till you get "Microsoft Network Client: Send unencrypted password.........."
Just set that to "enabled" and you should be set to do a standard \\samba\username
