We have a UT2004 dedicated server up and running @ 131.151.191.104 just browse your lan games and it should show up. Minimum players is set to 16, so there will always be bots if there arent people playing. Current gametype is set to Onslaught and mapcycle set to all ONS maps.

I'd say that as long as you have a lot of RAM and a good video card you'd be okay.

750mhz should be enough to run dedicated. get the actual dedicated server files so you dont have to acutally install the game and go through the menus and stuff(so a good video card doesnt matter). Just have a fair amount of RAM.

UT2004-3186-DedicatedServer in \\sackchaser\Shared\Downloads

just extract it to a folder anywhere. (ie: C:\UT2004server)

here are some links that may come in handy:
http://www.unrealadmin.org/modules.php?name=Sections&op=listarticles&secid=7
http://www.unrealadmin.org/modules.php?name=Sections&op=listarticles&secid=5

NOTE: I have a dedicated server running on Sackchaser (131.151.189.197). Currently its running CTF on all the default maps until i find maps that are better than others.

I actually meant the client version, not dedicated server :)

I think i will give it a shot. I DID play Halflife when it first came out, on my 300Mhz with 64MBram and 8MB video. (it wasnt pretty, but it worked)

side note: What would be cool, is if game developers could make their games bootable. to eliminate the resources needed to have windows/linux running in the background.

even if the game cd was bootable, there'd still be a liveCD equivalent of linux running so that the game knows what hardware you have.

I've got the linux bootable version of UT2003, it runs really well on computers that are pretty old, it won't be too long before someone makes a bootable UT2004.

I want to run a dedicated server but of the few dedicated server installs I've found none have worked? But I did see one server running on the LAN. Was server the result of a full install or did someone find a working dedicated install (basically I'm trying to avoid the extra 2GB of space taken up by a full instal)?

Just to note I've tried SACKCHASER's and PACO's.

you tried my server and it didnt work? then theres a problem on your end cause i got the dedicated server files provided by unrealtournament.com
you arent still running the beta are you? My DS is for the retail version. I noticed that the serer on Trashcan was outdated or something (dont remember the error given). Make sure you have the most up to day UT2004 version. Thats all i can think of right off.

Just as a response to Wario's post:
We got the zip file to work, instructions on how to use the dedicated server files were, well, pretty much non existent.
But yeah the zip files work. The hard part is configuring it everything.
If anybody has any tips on what to configure, the help is welcome.
