yeah, im about to join the crowd of multiple monitors. the hard part was just finding an identical monitor of the one i already have. apparently they discontinued my model. got lucky and found someone on ebay selling the same one i have.

Welcome to the club.

now how will this turn out?

Good we hope.

i get a dvi to vga adapter and hook the new monitor up to that.

That will work assuming you have a DVI-A or DVI-I connector on the card.

then use the ultramon prog to run the duals.

UltraMon is not the only choice, but in my opinnion, it's the best.

now, will there actually be a primary and secondary monitor so only one can actually play video?

The Primary monitor will be the monitor the "Start" button is displayed on, the monitor that full screen games will start and stay on, and the only monitor RealMedia's players will display video on. RM sucks.

also, will there be an interference problem if i run the 2048x1024 res at a low refresh rate?

Yes, you'll get scrolling lines. One monitor from the top, the other from the bottom. This cannot be fixed except by seperating the monitors and/or adding a second video card. It's due to the synchronization b/c the monitors are on the same card. As a general computing tip, do your-self a favor and don't run low-refresh rates, your eyes will thank you.

they're running from the same card so i wouldnt think there would be a prob.
Me neither, but C'est La Vie

My primary is an AGP Radeon 9800 PRO - 128 MB DDR, my second is a PCI Saphire ATI 9100 64MB I bought from URLocalGuru. I wouldn't suggest anything less than a 32 MB graphics adapter, especially if you want to run that type of resouluion. An 8MB card won't physicaly have enough memory to handle that resolution. As for the scrolling lines, they arn't bad. I didn't really notice them under use.
