lmao, that would be something for sure. Can't say I think my wife would ever play a video game like I do. I tried to get her on something really slow that takes resourceful thinking and she just says "I hate being in front of my computer for more than 30 mins."

It's pretty sweet. I think my system is having some sort of a problem or something, though.. people with worse configurations than me are getting much more playable framerates.
Things will definitely lag online in large fights like 16-man free for all.. I think it would take a pretty amazing system not to lag through that. On LAN the framerates are better, but I'm still not satisfied yet.
BTW, my system is Athlon XP 2800+, 1gb ram, and gf6800gt BFG 256mb.
You have the same problem as me. Apparently the newer vid cards need a better processor to really get going (makes sense).
I have an amd 3000+ and then got my x800 pro. 3d05 marks were about spot on with what everyone else was getting with the card but when I actually played games I was not getting the frames I was expecting.
I was told that if I simply changed from a socket A 3000+ to a 939 3000+. I would get another 20-30 frames in most of the newer dx9 heavy games.
well it may not be 20-30, but if you include the jerkiness it would have fixed in certain games it would be worth it. Doom3 I got about the framerate i was expecting but if there was any kind of light change my computer would choke like mad. It's a combination of frame rate and smoothness.

Well Quake 4 runs on the Doom 3 engine, so expect similar results to your Doom 3 performance. I don't think they modified the engine much at all for Quake 4.
My machine should significantly outperform my roommate's.. he has a 2800+, 512mb ram, and a 9800 pro 128mb and gets pretty much the same performance as I do on the same graphics config. There's definitely something wrong.. especially considering that nVidia cards are supposed to outperform ATI in OpenGL.
