Is anyone else getting really bad packet loss while trying to play online?
I've been attempting to play CS:S but can't due to packet loss anywhere from 15-30

Same here. IT claims it's not their fault because they're useless and apparently incompetent. Little do they know, it happens to EVERYONE.
Imagine trying to play like that in a clan match.

anyone who's having problems like this should go to help.umr.edu and file a complaint through there so IT gets it through their heads that it's THEIR problem.

You are currently in the 512kbs tier due to excessive downloads.
The bandwidth tiers currently apply only to usage from ResNet systems. A specific expiration time is only set for two reasons: an exception being put in place for a user to do extra academic/educational/research traffic upon request and the 7 day quota being exceeeded, which causes the throttle to be set at 56 Kbps for 7 days regardless of usage.
If you have any questions regarding this ticket please call 341-4357.
Thank You, UMR IT SOLUTION CENTER
I re-opened it, but got no reply. So I made a new one and got a reply from Karl F. Lutzen himself

There is some delay going through the bandwidth manager during certain intervals and we will adjust as the semester goes on. Currently it appears to be running well within bounds. However, your graph plainly shows that a major portion of the delay time is well off of campus and beyond our control (lines 7 through 10). There is nothing we can do about that part. You can try the campus game server as that will not have the off campus delay associated with it.

that's because you have to walk down the halls, and smack every kid that's whoring out a torrent or any other p2p app. The network goes to shit when everyone is downloading something. I cant even play on the UMR server from off campus anymore because dormie X decided to download the entire season of <insert show name here>

West TJ North should be LOS to EE. Time to break out the high-gain antennas and 300mw WiFi equipment. And hope the EE Wifi VLANs aren't in the Resnet shaper queues.

Maybe, but it worked fine first semester.

Adjustments and a reboot of the bandwidth manager have been made. Please note that we were still detecting off campus network problems reaching the particular game server in question. We have tested from 3 different Internet connections (ResNet, Campus, off campus) and see the same problem areas off campus from all three networks. If you still have problems, it is outside of UMR and MOREnet and I would recommend moving your game server to a site that had a reliable connection.
