I know people are greatly divided on the whole Halo issue, but there are literally millions out there that think that it's a very fun game. I fall into that category. In my mind, there is no better casual game with friends. It's much easier for me to lug my Xbox around then it is my PC for a LAN party, and it doesn't hurt that (in my mind) the game is very well designed and balanced (talking about the series in general, don't really want to fall into a Halo 1 vs 2 debate).

That being said, I'm really looking forward to Halo 3, and I especially like the whole beta testing thing that Bungie is doing. Even though Halo 2 sold like hotcakes, they're still listening to their core fans and trying to act upon their suggestions.

Also, HOLY CRAP, this thread took one reply to turn into a Halo debate. No offense El Pupitre. ;)

I like to drive while other people shoot. and sometimes, the controller drifts onto my crotch. I like it when it does that. :wink:

This isn't the last Halo game. After reading "Ghost of Onyx" the halo book that came out last month it's pretty clear that there will be many, many more.

This 'Finish the Fight' crap is just the end of this little saga in halo. Your literally just finishing the damn fight.

The trailer was actually pretty crappy in my opinion. It wasn't even made by Bungie. All it does is add onto the last book, shows foreshadowing of how the Spartans were chosen when they were 5 and shows the new Shield Grenade. I was hoping for some actual story hints or to actually see the new Spartan 3 units.

Yes, it is seen as a very fun game by many, many people. I agree.

The thing that truly amazes me is that nobody else is able to put out a multiplayer game of comparable quality on consoles. If you look at PC games, games of similar quality are literally *everywhere.* There have to be at least a few games of the same calibur of Halo released each year.

So why is it so hard to make one for consoles? Just take concepts from PC games and slow the gameplay down so you can control it with a little joystick. Get a half-decent scriptwriter to write your story. Hire some mediorce level designers to make linear single player gameplay like the Halo series has (really, there's nothing special AT ALL about the Halo single player). Add co-op for some replay value. Get your level designers to make some multiplayer maps and you're set. You don't even have to do much work at balancing the maps or the gameplay :).

Oh, also, put a lot of money into marketing. Then you've got a winner?

I'd be happy if they would start making multi player only games like the Nintendo 64's Turok Rage Wars. Really if they could make a great multi player game and stand it solely by itself they could charge less cash ($40 bucks) save development costs and make one every year like EA does with Madden.

Just think of how much you could push a game like Gears of War if they didn't bother making the single player. How much better the Multiplayer could be, maybe even clean up the game code to allow 20-40 players without lag.

It'll eventually happen but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

As in Quake 3, and the lesser Unreal Tournament series :)

Also, the problem with consoles comes down to the controller (common argument, but it's true). You can only do so much with a game with the current control input interface.

You ever heard of that, Worseley? You seem pretty up on the console scene. I honestly think it'll take over and become standard in the next-gen (ie after 360, ps3, wii) if it comes out retail for current-gen. I want to buy their stocks :).

I don't know if I really believe this will be the last Halo game, I don't think microsoft would be able to resist pinching more money out of their cash cow.
