I have been playing around trying to find a game like Guitar Hero for the computer. Some guy has made one called Frets on Fire, where you use your keyboard, and play like guitar hero. I have heard you can hook your guitar hero guitar to it, if you have a USB adapter.
I have the adapter to play on the computer. It worked on XP with no problems whatsoever. As for the game itself, it's not a bad idea, but many of the songs that other people have put notes to simply suck. The notes don't seem to go to the music at all, and I don't feel like making my own songs.
I managed to get a hold of all the GH1 and GH2 songs for Frets on Fire (ripped directly from the games)... have yet to hook up my adapter/SG to try it, since i just got it 3 days ago.

I saw that feature, but opted not to do it since I already have GH1+2.

I tried it and either the graphics were way out of sync or I have the worst reflexes ever. I don't think I hit a single note in 4 tries. It seemed like the menus were slow but the actual game ran at a reasonable pace.
I think the delay is more a cause of a poor sync between the fret-writing and the actual song than lag. I'd say the frets for the repeated notes in TWIBMPG can be as much as a quarter of a beat off of where it is in the song. It's not much of a surprise, since the fret editor isn't the easiest thing to use (even for the creators, it seems). Someone did make General Attitude by Collective Soul, and it's spot-on with the song, so it can be done right.
Out of curiosity, are the GH1/2 tracks hosted anywhere obvious that I'm missing, or do you need the actual games to rip the tracks? I couldn't find them on the FoF website or any links from it.

I think I remember seeing the torrent on Demonoid, if you have access to it.

I am sticking with the fact that whoever wrote the songs did make them with a delay. Anyway... I think I am jus going to stop trying. I have come to see that it just will never be Guitar Hero.
