Hey, do any of you guys know of a good program for playing D&D online. Preferrably one that comes with a dice roller and easy chatting between players.

IRC + dicebot is the easiest I've found. There's probably some more specific ones out there, but I'm not sure how well they work or if any extra features (character sheet stuff) would be up to date.

I had a friend who was playing with OpenRPG a while back. It seemed like a decent system. The setup for a server on Linux wasn't difficult and the user program was cake.

D&D online (the mmorpg) adheres very closely to the 3.5ed rules, if it's a video game you want to play.

It's my belief that D&D doesn't work well online. It loses it's personal flavor imo. Find a group to game with, it would be a lot more fun I bet.

edit/typo

I am talking about real D&D, not video games. As for finding a group, I already have a group here, and we would like to try to continue playing after school lets out. That's why I am looking for a good program to play online.

That's one of the funnier things I've read on the internet lately. DDO resembles D&D, but it's a far cry from P&P version. From my experience, NWN2 would be your better bet if you want something along those lines. Otherwise, your best bet would be using the previously mentioned stuff up above coupled with Ventrillo or Teamspeak (not sure anymore if similar things are implemented in those other programs).

Well, if possible I wanted something with mapping capabilities. And it has to be actual D&D, the online video games are not the same, and it is not likely that we will all decide to buy the video games to play together.

I reiterate.

Not specifically for D&D, but I don't see why you'd have any problems.
