I wouldn't seriously believe any claims about its release date until you can actually drive yourself to your nearest PC game outlet and physically get your hands on it, or Id itself makes an annoucement.

I guess they have. There have been way too many claims as to its release date that I was starting to really cynical.
My money's ready, but my videocard isn't. I can at least have a copy in my possesion on the 3rd, even though I can't afford a decent videocard to play it.
i can't wait. it's been a while since a good single player game came out. i'm sick of all these multiplayer games. UT2004 is cool and all, but even when you are playign by yourself it's a mock deathmatch with bots. i like beating levels. and i hope doom3's got like 30 missions like 1 and 2. and they have cool names like "dead simple" and "tricks and traps". and i hope i don't run into any arch viles they scare teh crap outta me!
and i hope there is a bitchin co-op mode! aw man that was a blast... "open the door" "no YOU open the door" "okay i'm opening the door" door opens, your friend ignites in a burst of golden flame and his splattered body careens across the room
Check out the beta shared out on my computer. I'm running a GF4 MX420 and it runs only slightly choppy. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I'll be able to purchase my 9600 Pro or 9600 XT.

There still hasn't been a 3d gaming moment for me quite like the first time I played Half-Life--it was 1 AM, dark, my speakers were all the way up, and then a headcrab jumped out at me.
Ho--ly--crap.
You know, it's in the first level--right after everything hits the fan and you're ambling around the base, and you don't have so much as a crowbar to fight with...Yeah, THAT headcrab.
Every time since then, I get the crowbar and come back for that little sonofa...
Speaking of.. any news on HL2's release date? I can hardly wait. (Except I think the refresh rate will be a little slow...I'm running a P-200 with 96 MB RAM...)
if memory serves me, hl2 didn't get the early release date...so i think it is coming out like 2 weeks after doom 3... i saw it on the sierra site but can't remember the exact date...
Sierra doesn't exist anymore, so I wouldn't take any information on their ghost page seriously... and to the best of my knowledge there is no release date for HL2 yet. We'll be lucky to see it in the next few months.
half life was a pretty good game, but those head crabs didn't scare me at all. nothing scared me more playing video games than the horrible soundblaster2 soundeffects of a cyberdemon roaring to life, and then stomping around the room. or a spider mastermind hissing when he notices you. i used to not really like half life, but after getting steam (which had HL installed on it) i played it again, and it really is a good game.
but i heard (read a conversation taking place on i2hub) that doom isnt' going to have co-op. just a special option on the x-box version. i can't type enough syllables into the word GGGGGGAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY. 2 person co-op is the greatest, because you are working together and it makes communicating and keeping track of your team much easier (even when playing counterstrike with 8 people, and you are in a game withs omeone you know, there are still 2 other teammates and then 4 other people running around, and they are all talking). on top of that, i don't see much of a deathmatch type game coming out of doom3, so will there even be any online support?
Valve Software is the real creator of HL2. Sierra was just the developer, much like a book's publisher as opposed to its author (sorry if you already knew that lol)
Anyway, Sierra and Blizzard Entertainment were both under the umbrella of Vivendi, which recently decided to close them down. HL2 will be released by a different developer inside Vivendi now, but I'm not sure which one. The only way this affects the game is a change in the logo cutscenes you have to skip through before getting to the game's main menu.
As far as co-op goes, Serious Sam 2 is coming out soon, which promises to be fun as hell!
on top of that, i don't see much of a deathmatch type game coming out of doom3, so will there even be any online support?
...
http://www.quakecon.org/forums/showthread.php?p=20891 Yes, there's deathmatch, and multiplayer, and the first ever doom 3 tourney is happening August 12-15, a 1v1 ladder and also a CTF if I can remember correctly.

[not at UMR for a year... i need money first]
Well, the "reccomended" card for HL2 is an X800 series 256MB graphics card. I've heard the game is scalable down to practically any computer ever, but I'm sure at some point the game starts to look like Pacman with guns.
