For those of you that don't know, Show Me Anime is a 15 year old organization whose sole task is to show anime to those that wish to attend our meetings. We have a vast anime library that is constantly being updated with new titles (which all members have access to) and we have regular meetings every Friday at 7pm in EE G31 (a rather nice room if I do say so myself).

The Show Me Anime! club is sending out an invitation to all those interested in anime who have artistic talent. We are currently having a t-shirt design contest in which you may submit a design entirely of your own in hopes that it may be picked for this year's t-shirts. The winner will receive one of the shirts for free and will have the honor of seeing all the club members (hopefully yourself included) sporting your threads around campus. If you would like to know the fine details and the criteria that you need to meet in order to participate, just shoot us an email over the anime@umr.edu list serve and we'll get back to you. What are some really good Anime movies to buy? I watched Steamboy and thought it was pretty good. I've seen parts of other Anime movies with alot better drawings though. Also getting into other series that are worth the time would be helpfull. I used to be a big Naruto fan before they started the 80 episodes of filler, even though the filler is getting over with, I'm not sure if my interest with it has survived.

I've gone to several of your guys shows a while ago but getting there on Friday nights is kind of tough now.

There's so many movies that I've seen but I can't remember their names or specifics about them.

It's really hard to narrow down all the anime movies that are out there. I'll just list some of the more common good movies, but you've probably seen them.

Cowboy Bebop: The Movie

Princess Mononoke (or almost anything Miyazaki)
Ninja Scroll

It's a short list and fairly generic. I can suggest more in the line of series, though.

Again, very hard to narrow down, but I fully stand behind all of these series. You should list some of your favorite regular movies. Maybe we could get an idea of what kinds of themes or genres you prefer by that.

Just naming some movies is pretty hard. Many good movies play off of a series. There are some good stand alone movies, they’re just harder to find.

If you like a Disney-esque feel: Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Howl’s Moving Castle

Others:
R.O.D. aka Read Or Die. We follow Yomiko Readman, aka Agent Paper, a school teacher with an affinity for rare books and the ability to make paper conform to her will, on her mission to prevent the re-assembly of the “Death Symphony.” This is technically an OAV (Original Animated Video), but at only 3 episodes it’s like a movie. It un-like many movies comes before the TV series by a very similar name.

Shinesman (Special Combat Duty Unit Shinesman) Corporate America meets Power Rangers in one of the funniest things I’ve seen. The jokes are great (and different) in both the English dialogue and the subtitles; once again, an OAV, 2 episodes.

Ghost in the Shell, the movie that started it all. While the plot is separate from the TV series, we see the same cast out to stop a rogue AI with its very own plan to escape. Lots of action but not as well drawn as the TV series or later movie.

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind is one I haven’t seen yet but is supposed to be quite good. One word of caution, it is one that ends pretty strangely.

If you like Cowboy Bebop, there is a movie too.

Of course technicaly not anime but if you liked Space Balls, you've got somthing about which to get excited.

Don't listen to him, he wears a helmet and drools a lot. If you are fairly new starting out with anime. Miyazaki makes movies that will gently usher you into the genre (Except for Castle in the Sky, it's boring as hell).

Hellsing, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, and Samurai Champloo are horrible animes to suggest *thwap* bad dog! All of them have relatively discouraging endings that could drive away intrepid young anime viewers.

Chobits? Manga was ten times better. FLCL? A classic, but only 6 episodes, thus making it worthless. Great Teacher Onizuka? ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND? I will admit that it is good, but the style of art termed 'the grotesque', in which character features are greatly distorted for comedic effect, could ruin a fan.

I only agree with Outlaw Star and Bleach from your list of Cartoon Network picks.

A good portion of standalone movies (those not based on a series) are more in the line of "artistic" - something that may have political/social/religious/philosophical undertones that require analysis (Akira, Spriggan, etc.). I would never suggest these movies to a newcomer, rather, once you've already become a lover of anime, they should be watched just for the appreciation of the work that went into making them.

btw, the storyline of Naruto should pick up again within the next 2-3 months (or so they claim).

I'd say that I'm probably somewhere in the middle ground of Anime. I've watched several of them by now. Started with DBZ like most and quickly got tired of the plot after the Cell Saga. I've been watching Naruto since episode 15'ish, it's by far one of the best I've seen, mostly because of all the character traits and storyline. They just need to stop with the bad guys being exactly like Naruto, who just took wrong turns. I heard the filler ends in the next couple episodes(probably the next one since all 11 of them fought in the last episode)

I've also watch Bleach up til around Episode 35, figured I'd wait and build up on ones to watch. Cowboy Bebop, GTA and a few other small series that went to about 10 episodes.

I've gone to your showings probably a dozen times and I'd almost always get a great Anime movie to watch there. Plus if you've been around long enough to remember Ophidian who shared the largest Anime collection a couple years ago, 1300 gigs and was always #1 for that Seek list that used to be here, he's the one who started me on all of this when he lived here.

I thought Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, and Samauri Champloo were all really good series, and I started with them more or less. Bleach is pretty cool, but it's lagging a bit right now. If you really want to throw part of your life away, watch Neon Genesis for a little while (but watch the movies if you want to understand the ending).

If you're going to watch Eva I'm quite tempted to tell you to wait until the new movies release.

What's the opinion on the Original Gundam and Gundam Wing series? They're a couple of my favorites.. Just wish I could find them somewhere... pm me if you know somewhere..

Um, if you happen to be a member of our club, we do happen to have both series if I remember correctly (if you just want to watch it to "remember the good times").

BTW, none of the anime I listed was obscure. All of them were on the top 10 anime lists for the respective years in which they came out in Japan AND the US. I understand that my response earlier warranted an equally stupid internet response, but don't defame quality anime titles just because you have a problem with me.
