So yea does anyone know whats up with CS306 Software eng I getting changed to a 200 level class? Im glad I caught this earlier as it could of effected my graduation date. Whats funnier is that I am now wait listed for the same class at the 200 level. So any information would be greatly appreceated.
My advisor mentioned this last semester, but I thought it wasn't supposed to go into affect until next spring at the earliest. Software Engineering 1 is going to become a required course for CS majors and it will become a prerequisite for senior design (that goes into affect next spring. So you'll have to take cs 306/206 this fall if you plan to graduate in the spring). When that happens next spring I was told it was going to change course numbers from 306 to 206.
There's one small problem with all of this, at least to my knowledge none of this information has been made publicly available to the CS students. My advisor just happened to mention it sort of on accident. I don't know what will happen to students who planned on using CS306 as one of their 300 level electives and who plan to graduate this december now that they've changed the course level a semester early. It's a bit late to get into other 3xx classes with ease.
This change has been in the works for some time... Talk to Dr. Ercal or Corky about getting it to apply as CS 306 (they'll need to fill out a waiver/substitution form).
This change really did need to happen - CS 306 was WAY too easy for a 3xx course - not to mention it should've been required from the start.
Do you know what will be replacing the 306 course? I was looking forward to taking it as a grad student, but now that it's a 200 level course, can't really do that.

I honestly thought they'd move CS 406 down to 306, but that hasn't happened. When I asked about that precise thing last year, I got a "That decision hasn't been made." My guess would be that CS 307 would be the next one in progression - since it's the next logical step, but Dr. Liu might have something else in store for it.

i thought there was this whole your not suppose to take any class that wasnt in your catalog year? Or is that not true anymore. Otherwise it just seems like they could keep on tacking on required classes and pushing back peoples graduation date. Good thing I enrolled in 306, otherwise I wouldnt graduate till next fall.
