I'm trying to decide what classes to take next semester, and I see that IST 141 will be taught by a "Esteban Cerrillo, B."
Does anyone know anything about this person? It makes me uneasy to enroll in classes for professors that I haven't read anything about (on ratemyprofessors, for instance).
The other choice would be to take IST 286 with Carla Bates, but I don't want to take a web design class from a lady whose webpage looks like this:
http://web.umr.edu/~carla/
Is Bates the only one who teaches that class? I'm going to have to take it eventually, since there isn't a CLEP test for it.
I could take 233 (Introduction To Telecommunications Networks) with Kehr, a good professor, but I would rather take 221 (Internet Concepts and Applications) when it is offered; between those two, I only need to take one.
Yes, Carla's the only one who teaches that. You will not learn jack shit, but if your IQ is higher than that of a fruitfly, you will get an A.
Take anything taught by Dr. Kehr. He's awesome, you'll learn a lot, and it's also an easy A.
221 was changed to IST 352 I believe. I took it with Carla as the teacher, same thing. Didn't learn a damn thing, skipped class except on test days, and got an A. 286 is a prereq for 352.
Avoid Dr. Flachsbart at all costs. If you're an IST, you have to take 223 and 231 with him, which sucks, but don't take any extra classes from him.

I think IST 141 is one of those classes taught by a student instead of an actual professor.
When I took it, Dr. Hilgers taught it. It wasn't a bad class and he's a great teacher.
One more question: I may take IST 233 with Kehr, but the class is split. MF is lecture at 11, then lab is W at 10:00. I was wondering if the lab is optional, like the IST 151 lab (which I have yet to go to). Otherwise, that would suck because I couldn't schedule another MWF class at 10:00.
The lab is required. The reason it's from 10-12, is because the lab room (in the Missouri Enterprises building) doesn't have enough computers for the entire class, so half of the students go from 10-11, and the other half from 11-12, and Dr. Kehr will make sure you get the 11-12 slot (more like 11-11:05, the labs are really easy).
JoeSS won't let you schedule overlapping classes though, so you may need to talk with Dr. Kehr or the registrar to see how to override it.
286 is also super easy. I don't think I've missed a single point on an assignment or test yet.
I'm not concerned about the class's difficulty, but rather its usefulness. I would honestly bet that by age 10, I was a better webdesigner than Carla Bates.
