I'm required to take a three-hour class in either chemistry, geology, or physics. All I want is a complete blow-off class. I need to take it within the next two semesters (so I can graduate on time). Any ideas? I really don't want any of that lab or recitation business - just a straightforward three-hour class that's easy as 3.1415926535897932384626433832795028841971693223.

i liked Chem 3 with Pericles - thats an easy class. He helps you do the homework on wednesday (due friday), and his tests and quizzes are easy if you do the homework. 75% is an A (easy if you're not lazy [me]). I hope he still teaches - he's an awesome guy. Funny if you pay attention.

Pericles was hilarious; I wish more of my teachers had that dry sense of humor.

GE 50 was a pretty easy class. It does have a lab, but all you do is learn how the rock-lickers ID stones.

Phys 107. Seriously. It's a mindtrip but you'll have fun with it. Get Dr. Story and you'll have some fun--though I think you may have to have a physics background, I don't know, check the pre-reqs.

Physics 9? That sounds interesting. I see that there's a lab - is it required? Have you taken the class, or do you just hear/assume that it's easy?



That's an option, but I really don't want to have a lab (not based on difficulty, but rather because of time constraints, plus the fact that it would be overkill as I don't need any more than three physical science hours).

But hey, thanks for the tips, everyone! In planning out my schedule, it looks like I'll probably wait till next spring (my final semester) to take whatever class I decide on, but your input is still very much appreciated now.

I'm just assuming it's easy I've heard it is from others, I don't know anything about it. Seems like it can't be that hard though.....

I re-read. Physics 9 is a complete blow-off class, or as much of one as you're going to find at This Fine University. Sarah's not an engineer either and it went ok for her, took some studying but overall not too bad. Get a sciencey friend to get you through the rougher parts and you'll be ok. The way I remember it there wasn't any math; there were mathematical concepts, and it helps to know and understand exponents since you have to get a feel for the massiveness of the universe (oh yeah we're going there) but it's not a math class. The difficulty comes from studying for the tests--you get a sample test with no answers. Finding the answers takes some determination.

And no, the lab's not required, but as long as you're studying the stuff in the course it couldn't hurt to go out to a few Open Observatory nights (if you're into that kind of thing, and if not, why would you take the course?) and have a peek around the sky. They're pretty cool.

Shazbot, you're right! Back in high school I memorized 108 digits for Pi Day one year and I've been slowly forgetting digits over time. I did know it was 3993, though. Followed by (not looking it up, I swear) 7510582097494459230781640620899862803482534211706798? (My memory's getting pretty hazy there toward the end; I probably had a mistake or two.)

My problem is that the short chains of digits I memorized have, over time, become hard to keep in order.
