Why do (some) teachers assume students have nothing better to do than work on long term projects over spring break?

because (some) teachers are jealous of the time that students get off. While we're out frollicking in the sweet air of early spring, (some) teachers are stuck inside at their lowsy desk grading the tests and papers and assorted assignments that they made due this week. Thus, they decide that rather than be lonely in their pain, they shall spread it about. Herego, long-term projects are assigned to keep the would-be-happy students indoors like (some of) their not-gonna-be-happy professors.

Of course, another explanation would be that (some) teachers are douche bags, but eh, the former was more fun to come up with.
