Latest email from teacher, Richard Bryant:

Quote:
HI folks: not good news regarding the last assignment. Only 20% scored at the "B" level or above, while 69% scored at a "D" or "F".

Does this reflect worse on the students or the teacher? He sometimes seems like he makes stuff up as he goes along, such as when his graph didn't match his equation, and the first question he asked I got wrong because I was supposed to answer based off the equation, and then the second question I got wrong because he then decided we should answer based off the graph. Anyone else have opinions of him or his teaching methods?

Haha, Bryant is a rip. Good luck getting an A. Though you have a really good chance if you take notes meticulously on your laptop about each and every thing he says, like the freshman douchebag who always sat like two rows in front of me. God's sake, kid. Read the book.

I aced two of the tests, did all the assignments, and somehow still got a B. I thought Econ was supposed to be a joke here.

I think it reflects on the teacher - I think a normal bell curve should be around a C or B : some students work, while others don't. If 80% or so is failing, something is really fucking wrong with the class/teacher. (Generally) See also, Saberwhal and his crazy-ass antics. But he curves like a mo-fo, so its kay.

Bryant means well, but economics is a waste of time. I didn't learn a damn thing when I took it with him, other than the fact that basic graphs suddenly became unreadable. With him, do all the extra credit. I had over 100 points worth. Got a B. Forgot everything a week later.

I had bryant, and ended up failing his class. He never taught what was important, or what reflected on the tests. Somehow you are supposed to read the book, which is a PDF file of what he wants (cause after all, he wrote it). So if you dont understand him, you wont understand the book either. Econ 122 is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY easier... i slacked off so much and ended up getting a B... if i actually went to class, i probably could have got an A.

I always love reading these threads about Econ... Makes me appreciate the ~30 hrs of gen ed's I transferred in from taking online classes over the summer (and hey, I even learned a thing or two, too! - not often I can say that about a class).

Srsly, why waste time, money, and (apparently) your GPA on something as utterly retarded as Econ? If you're having problems dealing with shitty teachers in a gen Ed class, I sure hope you figure something out before you start all of your major classes... otherwise, gl hf dd ka hh jk gd oe iw ky mf ay ja sf cl ds jk oa in ia nk hh hf bl.

Please tell me at least half of those are made up, otherwise I'm going to feel very ignorant.

Actually, I'm almost done with all my major classes. I needed a filler class and sadly took this. I'm actually doing well in this class, I was just posting the email he sent and asking opinions. And Sabharwal wasn't that bad when I had him for CS256.

I did the same thing Cylord... Take these classes at east central in rolla, credit hours are < $300/pop and the teachers realize these are gen ed credits and don't douche all over you. (also nearly all credits transfer in) Plus a lot of the teachers are also MST/UMR teachers. Out of the 30 credit hours I transferred in I had 4 MST/UMR teachers. I feel like I still got quality education, but with less headaches.

Also, Ray Mowery, the Econ teacher there, is awesome (and used to be in the Econ dept here) He's also more relevent as he works for the loans department of the local Federal Bank branch RIGHT NOW as opposed to being a teacher for 55 years.

Yeah, MicroEcon was my first real college class ever, the local juco gave away 3 free summer hours to all graduating seniors. Got 106% in that class while working two jobs, back when I was a badass.

If I didn't have a full ride to Rolla I might have taken advantage of some more of those classes.

If I hadn't lost my full ride two years in, I'd have been gone in '08 with a master's and still have no job.
