I know a topic was posted about this a while back but it didn't seem too detailed and it was fairly old so I figured I would start up a new topic.

Anyone know of any places to go offroading/mudding around here? I figured we could all post our finds here with directions and descriptions and maybe get together sometime and go have some fun in some of these places. Im itching take my jeep out for the first time.

Ya, I'm interested too... I just bought a nice '98 Wrangler 5-Speed. I'm ready to go.

There has to be some good mud holes around here now, especially since it's been raining all day.
Anyone have any input?
Anyone want to go sometime in the near future?

I know of some low-water streams that might be fun, but I don't have a 4-wheel drive.

best bet is prolly to go to flat nasty.

There used to be a place to go down 44 towards springfield but not anymore.

im not sure as to real off roading or mudding but the shooting range has some decent rough roads, and spots that get pretty full of water after rains like today

take 63 about 13 miles past kmart onto road 6020 on your left (not the first one but the second), the second right goes down a hill and there are a bunch of roads down there. Be careful though the first part is pretty steep and its been washing out.

I am a bit to lazy to write about all the neat trails to go on but i know there were posts in the past about this. I wrote about some places. The way i found out about them was exploring. I got in the car and drove all over the place but i did do that when gas was less than $2. You can pretty much go on any gravel/ mud road as long as it is a county road and not posted "private".

A nice area to start at is south of Salem. Go explore.

Salem is pretty awesome, great dirt roads and they get fairly rough, just have to explore and not get lost

I was hoping to avoid having to explore too much considering my jeep doesn't get that great of gas mileage  but i've got nothing else to use my money on at this point in time, well expect some recovery points, might need those.

There is an amazing site for offroading outside of salem off the road to to camp zoe called Flying W. Its about 45 minutes from here but it is one of the best sites I have ever been to. It has everything from mud to dried and gored out tracks that look like your driving through the sahara to deep woods tracks. Also, there is a river that winds throughout the area that you can drive through in several areas where the trails cross the rivers. It also has one of the best swimming holes around. In one area, there are different levels of cliffs you can jump off of into pretty damn deep water. If anyone is really interested, I'd be glad to post directions. Hell, I'd go out there with you. It's one of my favorite places around. You have to have a sturdy vehicle with decent clearance in most areas. Respond away if anyone wants to head up there sometime.

excellently done. I need to work on my video editing skills, and find some better software, because nothing I have can do anything like that.

I was surprised to see Seek42 on one of the linking sites under the stats tab on YouTube for my video, thought I'd check it out... Honestly thought Seek died two years ago or something...

Anyways, thanks for the compliments on my video! As for the software, I used Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, however it was just a real basic chop-and-drop, nothing fancy, could easily be done with any bargain-bin video editor. For the main title (my name) I used Adobe After Effects, was just an exercise to learn how to use the software, so that was really the only fancy part.

And to get back on topic, I don't really know of any roads besides the shooting range to go "off-roading" but there are plenty of amazing rally-style roads that I take my WRX out on all the time to have fun on around here, particularly up north and down south a bit, nothing much East/West.

Seek did die, but thanks to the never-ending devotion of a select few on campus, it was revived (sans some under-the-table abilities). The forum lives on, continuing to serve the S&T (bleck) community in more "wholesome" ways.
