I've heard rumors of a Target, Home Depot and Wallgreens. Dunno if they're true, but if they are, a Best Buy wouldn't be out of the question. I'd rather have a Circuit City though, lesser of the 2 evils.

As much as I love a BestBuy I don't forsee rolla being able to support one and highly doubt that the'd be building one.

Jefferson City (it appears) is getting a best buy and we have 3x the population - granted its not a college town, but college kids aren't going to buy from best buy anyway (unless they have a good deal). My guess is most UMR people would go to best buy, screw around, play with stuff, and wind up buying cheaper online.

Best buy does have some nice deals from time to time, but I believe those are typically to get you into the store to buy other things - and the Rolla demographic isn't the type that would "buy other things." they'd be the type to rape best buy for all they're worth.

Very true. Best Buy is rarely a best buy. Nearly anything can be found cheaper online than at their stores. It would be nice to have one though, but I'm not sure if Rolla could support it. Most towns as small as Rolla generally don't have them.

The Target and Wallgreens were supposed to be built but the city of Rolla did not give them tax exemption and some other things. Other places were suppose to come in as well but the Rolla city council is run by a bunch of HELLA OLD people who don't want Rolla to become a large city.

We were suppose to get a Cracker Barrel where Buleher (sp?) park is but the people of Rolla (Old people) said they rather have the shity old park around. It really is a shitty place. So they built the Cracker Barrel in St. James.

Damn. I was looking forward to a Target. Not that I like that place, because after working at one for 4 years, I hate it, but if it wouldn't be as trashy and dirty as Wal-Mart, I'd shop there.

I doubt that college students won't buy from Best Buy. College age folk have a tendency to spend a great deal of any money they have on stereos, TV's, glowing computer parts, and monster cables.

UMR students are techy and know that monster cables are a ripoff. Some douche at BestBuy tried to sell me monster optical cables that were 50 bucks apiece, and I needed 2, when I bought my home theater system there. I declined, and got the 2 12ft cables I needed for 10 bucks shipped off eBay and they work fine. What's a lower quality digital cable going to do? Transmit 0010111012 instead of 0010111011?

Clearly, not all UMR students are "techy."

While a majority of us know where to get the good stuff and what to beware of, not everyone here is that aware. I can think of 3-4 people right off the top of my head that go to school here, and would be more than willing to spend up to 2x more (of their parent's money) for the instant gratification of having the product at the point of purchase rather than waiting for FedEx/UPS to come knocking on their door.

Monster cables don't suck. I have the componet monster cables for my xbox. Got them from gamestop for 10 bucks. They were normally 50 or 60 probably when they were new.

They don't neccesarily suck, if by suck you mean don't work. They work fine, but they're overpriced and are not the holy grail of home theater like Monster and Best Buy want you to believe.

Off Topic but,
I don't personaly own any Monster Cables but the ones that I have used elsewhere were very nice, they did not have a rubber outer insulation but a woven insulation that would lay out flat on any surface and did not get twists and things like that in it. There is nothing I hate more than a mess of cables and the ones I used seemed to do a gret job of preventing that.

If that is important to you, then they could be worth it. But, you are right that they are going to transmit the same data at the same speeds with the "same" quality.

There isn't a cracker barrel in St. James. Are they going to get one? The closest one is in St. Roberts from here.

Not positive, but I think he meant St. Roberts.

Too many freaking St. Towns in this area:

St. James
St. Roberts
St. Cloud
St. Clair

I don't care enough to look up more, but that is all I can think of within 60 miles.
