Whats the best way to go about getting a single room somewhere in TJ or the Quad at this time in the semester? If that's not possible is there a way to ensure getting one in the spring?

If your a female then pretty much want a single entitles you to one, being a male you pretty much have to have a disability to get a single now a days.
As far as I know there is a waiting list to get in the dorms (don't ask me), so the odds of you having a single even if your roommate left are still very slim.
I see plenty of guys around here with just one person to a room.....(besides the RAs)
Unless you were guarenteed a single from last year, don't count on getting one. AFAIK, they'll be needing all the rooms they can get because of the number of incoming freshmen. They'll start filling up the double where a roommate left in a couple of weeks (it takes that long to be sure people aren't coming back). Even after that, they'll probably offer money to those with singles to put people in rooms (like they did two or three years ago).

Nope, they don't give out single rooms anymore. Trust me.
Even girls don't get one. It's a big hassle dealing with ResLife here. They have some of the most stuck up B*tches working there.
The only way to get a single room is to kick your roommate out. And most likely you will NOT be assigned a new roommate because the people that work at ResLife are just as lazy as they are pricks.
There were completely open rooms last year, yet they would not dish them out to those waiting on the single list. I made many trips to ResLife so I could move (I was #1 on the single-room wait list). They kept telling me the open rooms were for survivors of hurricane katrina!!! LOL! No Joke! Did we get any refugees?? lol, no, we didn't. And the rooms remained open through both the 2005 and the 2006 semesters.

I read and re-read your post, but, wait... You're kidding right? Please tell me your kidding?!?!

There are currently 5 official single rooms (last I heard). So they are obviously restricting who can get them. Women may have a very hard time getting singles because there was a wait list to get into the halls as a female this year (even after putting a floor of females in Altman and Holtman .
As for the Hurricane situation...the University was asked (if I recall correctly) to hold rooms open for people. And as for there being no refugees...i don't know what you mean by refugee but I guarantee there were students from New Orleans that moved up here and went to classes (I had class with someone who was from Tulane).
And if you do get your roommate to leave you will probably get a new roommate given the current housing numbers. And you shouldn't be a douche just to get a single, I mean grow up. You may not like living in a double (I fought for 3 years to get a single- unsuccessfully) but it shouldnt be a big enough deal to be a douche to someone else who had nothing to do with it.

Ya, just stick with it for the first 2 years. You'll appreciate your crappy Rolla apartment a lot more when you move out Junior year
The other option would be Nagogami apartments. Its an apartment owned by the university. If you can get in there, then it counts as being housed by UMR, you DONT have to have chartwells, and it only costs $245 per month if you share it with someone. 2 Bedrooms, bathroom, Large Living room, Kitchen with stove/frige and crap.
I was in Nagogami last year and it was pretty nice (and very very affordable considering it was $250 and it came with UMR internet and the Cable TV). It's mostly for married couples, but the wait list is small if any. Its right behind ResCo.

Yeah, my sister was at Tulane, and UMR was one of the many schools that was taking students from there. I think she even contacted them about coming here for a semester, but since she was in law school, and UMR doesn't have a law school, that didn't happen.
And I know there was someone in one of my classes that was from NO. Not sure what college, but I know he was from there.

I had a guy move onto my floor from New Orleans and he stayed just for one semester. There were quite a few people that came from the affected aareas.
to get a single, you need super seniority. for the time being, accept having a roommate and make the best of it. you can try to get on the wait-list, but it doesnt move too fast.

So you were happy with Nagagami? Seems like you were treated nice. The same Reslife people you were preaching about earlier run those apartments. It seems that if you had got your single when you were still in the halls, you'd be the biggest advocate for staying on campus. Sorry to hear how hard it has been for you.

Ya, ResLife runs Nagogami, too. They were actually quite helpful and nice when I wanted to move to Nags. I think they just don't like dealing with all the dormies bugging them.
