I am conducting a survey to determine whether or not there is a demand for a fountain on the UMR campus. Looking for some real input on this as it is part of a class project. Also, any thought or ideas on a design or potential location.
Thanks Much
Cory Smith
P.S. Dont forget to answer the other two questions located in different threads.

I think one would be awesome, but I think we have a "plaza" already with the puck. I also think douche bags would be doing douche baggish things to it all the time, and I think most would agree that
Puck>Water fountain
since the Puck is a fixture on this campus and has such history.
I also don't want it to be over by Hanever, enough money has been pissed away over there....

I don't think it's being "pissed away" since the center of campus (not physical center, mind you) is pretty much being moved over there.
I do agree, though; people will do douche-baggish things to it. Two words for you: St. Pats.

Personally I thought that the planter in front of the library was going to be a fountain when they started constructing it. I would like to see a fountain on campus. I would not remove the puck as that is just wrong… Also as all ready mentioned, one could put green dye and dish soap in the thing around Saint Pat’s… Good Fun.

a fountain is a freakin excellent idea. Where to put it is a tough decision though. Perhaps infront of the library is a good idea, but I'd like to see it somehow near havener, like between Engineering management and Havener in the little green area. right by the painted road.

Ok, well here are some things that i am kicking around. I am thinking that the little mall area between the library and the puck is going to become the most crowded area on campus. MY first choice would be to put it smack dab in the center of that newly sodded area just east of the Rolla building. I would think of putting it in the center, and paving paths to and from in all directions. This would also allow people to cut across the area.
Ok, there will be no problems with the fountain and St. Pats. Fountains are drained over the winter months to prevent freezing. They generally dont open until mid-April. I would be more worried about random people climbing on it after it was built. This would get out of our system fairly quickly, though.
I think it is a little wierd that Missouri's premier technological research University is the only campus in the University of Missouri system without a fountain. I know, we make up for it with the composite bridge and the puck.
I have a design in mind, and wouldnt mind sharing it with you guys.
Thanks,
Cory

Am I missing the immense draw of a fountain? I just don't "get it" I guess. A large faux-plaster thing spraying water. Perhaps we could stare at it? Or would the monies received from picking up coins inside of it lower student's tuitions by an appreciable margin?
My ignorance aside, please don't eat up any more grassy areas in the middle of campus. I would like to see more grass being introduced to the area, not more paving. Especially after the 'parking lot' was put in front of the library.
