So I saw a booth in Havener last week and they were talking about off campus apartments only for students. Anybody have any specific info about these? I couldn't stop at the booth, but I am looking for a place starting this summer.

There is going to be some huge apartment complex opening up in August. It is located behind campus police. I forgot the website but they have a big sign that shows what it will look like.

The apartments look amazingly nice from the pictures and from what the brochure describes. Only problem is that it costs 415 a person per month, and then you still have to pay the electricity bill.

Hmm... that's roughly $4370 for 10 months (go home or intern during summer) + electricity + food. TJ Double for next year is $5950.

There are apartment efficiencies somewhere in rolla for $300 a month which includes all utilities. It's basically a mini apartment, kinda like a dorm with a bathroom and kitchen. I don't know about you but I'd rather do that than dorms, even if it is tiny. Save mucho $$$.

I live in the cheap apartments in Rolla, the A-Frames (called International Village, behind frat row). They're alright, I guess. Holds me and my fiancee. Real upside is that they're only $250 a month for rent, water, sewer, and trash service. Altogether we pay roughly $400 a month for everything (including electricity, gas, internet, cable, phone). So, that's about $4800 a year for two people, so $2400 per person + food. Compare that to any of the dorms (and the apartment you can live in for the whole year, not just 8 months). The only downside is putting up with Investment Realty (took them months to repair my apartment), but once everything is initially set up how you like it, it works well.
I'm not trying to pimp my apartments specifically, but look around and you can find some good deals. The collegiate station looks nice, I guess, but it's outstandingly expensive. I'd have to pay twice what I do now for my fiancee and I to live there, and it really isn't worth it, IMO.

I wish I only paid $415 a month for an apartment. Enjoy those college prices while you can get them.

I pay $300 a month for EVERYTHING except phone/internet/cable I have free off street parking, and I am closer to campus than TJ. Plus I have my own kitchen and bathroom, and a kick ass land lord.

I see their prices as this:
$1,668.00 a month for a four bedroom apartment plus electricity.
(You share a bathroom with one other person and a common area with three others)
$950.00 a month for a two bedroom apartment plus electricity.
[(You share a common area with one other person) corrected; sorry]
Now, they say that you would not be responsible for the others share of the rent if they decide to leave, but I highly doubt that is a realistic situation. It would be in their best interest to keep every possible room occupied.
Lets assume you would be sharing this apartment with your friends and if so this is a huge ripoff to me. You can rent a four bedroom house for less then their prices, even with just two people.
They also will not allow pets, smoking (not that I would complain), no "friends" can sleep with you in your room (according to the rules). They did not mention if you can have alcohol or not.

IMO, this is a huge rip off. I pay $200 a month for EVERYTHING living in a 2 bedroom decent sized apartment (comparable to the 2 bedroom UMR one, if not bigger) We can do what we want here (including have pets/friends) and it's closer to campus!
I'd say you're better off leasing from a non-UMR entity.
I talked to the guy about married couples living there. He said that you have to pay double rent, which is understandable. But, I thought I'd throw it out there in case anyone was wondering.
