My stomach hurt all morning and I puked this afternoon. Yes, I ate the "new potatoes" yesterday for lunch and dinner. I didn't realize others were sick as well?
(Please no off-campus ftw comments, I'm just asking who is sick and why.)

Alot of people over at TJ North tower aren't feeling well. I drove a friend of mine who lives on 2N to student health. They said people were all coming in with the same thing and whatever is making everyone sick is unknown. Student health's best guess' are that it is either food poisoning or the stomach flue.
So, what did we learn (or have reenforced) from all this? TJ food sucks, and Student Health doesn't know jack shit.

Are these 'new potatoes' you refer to the mashed potatoes? I've eaten at TJ every day this week, including eating mashed potatoes yesterday, and I'm fine.
I also got an email claiming its some kind of viral infection:
Quote:
Thursday evening several students began experiencing flu like symptoms. The Division of Student Affairs was made aware of this situation Friday morning and promptly began investigation. Reports indicate students exhibiting these symptoms were primarily residents at Thomas Jefferson Hall.
Student Affairs takes every precaution to ensure the health and safety of our students. As such, our office in conjunction with Student Health Services have investigated this matter with University Dining Services to rule out the possibility of potential food positioning. Our efforts have derived information to suggest the symptoms reported mirror those found within the local public school system and reported by the Health Department. Thus we are considering this illness to be a viral infection.
As of noon today, Residential Life reports having approximately 40 students experiencing flu like symptoms. In order to accommodate these students we will be providing additional support services over the weekend. These services will include making flu packs available for students who are unable to leave the building for their meals. Flu packs will consist primarily of clear broth, Jell-o, popsicles, fortified juices, clear beverages and soda crackers. These services will be made available from Saturday & Sunday, 11:00-4:00p.m.at the Thomas Jefferson cafeteria. Flu packs can be picked up or delivered to ill students by friends, roommates or residence hall staff.
Student Affairs would like to alert students to take additional precautions over the weekend including infection control exercising appropriate hand-washing and maintaining distance from group interaction if possible. Students needing assistance should be reminded to contact their resident assistants or hall director. Additionally Student Health Services will be available from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Student Health may be reached at 573.341-4284 or via email at umrshs@umr.edu We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.
well i haven't eaten at TJ in the past week, been going to Havener, and i haven't gotten sick. i did have the runs, but that was probably from the roast beef sandwich i had for lunch.
just precautionary though - i've been germ-x ing myself whenever i enter my room. even after the shower (one sick kid was cleaning puke out of his trashcan in the showers). i also drink about a gallon of OJ a week (love that stuff), so that probably helps too.

I have NO IDEA if this is related, but I was in SHS this morning about 0930, and some guy was being helped in by one of his friends to see the nurse. The guy being help looked like sh*t (no offense to who ever that was) as he looked like death warmed over.

Something similar went around the CCH like...2 or 3 years ago. It was horrible, horrible pain and explosive vomiting for a week solid. It's what you get when you share bathrooms.
Somehow I ended up being one of the 2 guys that didn't get sick.

Update: so I went to student health and they kept me for a little over six hours to be sure I didn't dehydrate too bad. Yeah, I heard a lot of people are coming down with this one. The ones that looked a little better than me were given instructions and sent home.
