I know this has been talked about before. Is there a good place to get a decent inexppensive (and basic) haircut around town? I was going to great clips by wal-mart for a while, but they have been botching it up lately, so I would like to go somewhere else. I suppose I could search, but would like recommendations.

I've been going to the one near the Salvation Army's store. I think it's on Pine Street but I can't remember for sure. They seem to do a good job for $10, only problem is that they can move a little slow.
Bonus is that they still use straight razors and warm cream for trimming.
Dave's Barber shop on Pine. It is on the west side of the street, on maybe the second block up from the end (near the train tracks). $10 for a hair cut, and lots of good magazines to read. Not the most stylish place to go, but for a basic hair cut they do a great job.
Yea, Dave's is awesome. If Dave cuts your hair he cleans the stubble that is left with a straight blade shave. If Lloyd cuts your hair, he cuts it a little shorter.

Not much, a dollar or two. That prolly makes me a chepaskate, but seriously, trim on top, buzz on the side, isn't that hard and only takes approx 15 minutes.
I've known Dave for a couple years. He does a good job. Don't let the other guy do your hair tho, you'll always end up with a buzz cut.
As for GreatClips, i stay away from that chopshop. They let anyone cut hair there.
Another vote for Dave's, the owner (Dave) is on the left as you come in, he is always in demand thus I get Loyd. But all in all I have never got a bad hair cut from there. Two older guys who know just about everyones name who enters the store....
As mentioned $10 dollars + a tip if you wish ~$1 or $2 is what I give.
Oh, if you plan to go on Thursday you have to call ahead and make an appointment... (573) 364-5639 Call damn early if try for tomorrow (Thr), and I mean like 6 or 7am.
Yes, DO NOT goto Great Clips, I prefer not to get my hair cut by someone who just watched a training video on the techniques of getting people in and out as quickly as possible...
Both Dave and Loyd take their time to do it right... Oh cash only btw.

Sounds like I will be headed down Pine Street. Also sounds like it will beet the $14 pretip of not-so-GreatClips
I never understood why you would tip someone for cutting your hair. How much do you tip anyway?
Generally I tip if I go to a chain place, like Great Clips, or anywhere where the person cutting my hair doesn't own the place. The folks who cut hair at places like that see very little of what the hair cut costs. So, if they do a good job, I give them a buck or two.
If the person owns the place (or a small group of them do), I generally don't tip, because they pocket most of the cost of the haircut.
Granted, I don't know if any of this is true, but I assume it is.

No, no, no, no, no. Take it from a townie: go to the place by the high school. It's just off of 10th Street. I don't remember the name of the place, but it's wedged between a flower shop and an athletic rehab center. You can't miss it. $12 will get you a shampoo from a mildly attractive lady (compared to the chunkers of Great Clips) and a nice, professional haircut. I highly recommend it. I think they prefer appointments, but I got mine cut as a walk-in.

The turnover is so high at great clips that i'm amazed you could get the same person twice, much less say that anyone is a chunker and have anybody go back to see the same person before they get fired and another hairn00b gets hired.
But yes, Dave's is the best. I always get my hair cut by Lloyd, and it's never too short for me. In fact, I need a haircut now.
