I'm just trying to get an idea for how many people have been done wrong by the bookstore/"the company that buys back books." I don't know about you all but I think it's complete crap when they say that they've "reached their buy back limit." I'm sure there are like a thousand other schools that use the same book that they could sell to. On top of that, why won't they accept books that are ONE edition old? Like I said before I'm sure there are plenty of schools using that edition the next semester. Just my two cents. Anyone else think the same or oppose?

Simple solution: Don't buy from the bookstore, don't sell to the bookstore. Go there, write down the books for your classes (the isbns), and buy them off the internet.

If enough people start doing this, they'll get the idea, and either shut that section down, or start charging a reasonable price/providing a decent service.

Until you do this, quit bitching. If you do this, then you should still stop bitching because you won't be dealing with them again.

Cool people say F*CK the bookstore and use Amazon/Ebay/ect. The bookstore charges more, and then won't buy them back for as much. There is no comparison. Hell, send me a pm of your ISBN's and I might buy your books from you (I will warn you ahead of time though, I won't give you anymore for them than I am sure I can make a decent profit off of).

My recommendation would be start with Amazon, and sell them back yourself. I had several the bookstore wouldn't give me any money for, so I listed them on Amazon and make about 6-7 hundred dollars AFTER Amazon took its cut.

Also, you can get the ISBN's off the internet. No reason to even go to the bookstore...

I only mentioned the book store to get ISBNs as sometimes the courses will change books. Sometimes even the bookstore has the wrong book, and seeing as how they're unbelievably incompetent, I don't see how it's not a surprise to me.

Does anybody have any info on a textbook loan program? Northwest Missouri State used to have one (they still might, but I can't find much about it on the internet). We should do that instead.

Ditto.

Also, keep in mind that the bookstore will buy back books bought elsewhere as long as it's not an international edition, and profit can be made. I once bought a book for 6 bucks on Amazon (it was $100 used from the bookstore, what a ripoff) but the bookstore bought it back for $50. Easy money.

I've had them try and charge me the new price for a used book before, and they also tried doing this to my roommate, seems like a common occurance...

The bookstore totally sold me a sample copy, teacher's edition book. They were slick though because they like laser cut some black electrical tape around the edges to hide all the markings. After realizing my book was different I took it off and found that it said, "not for resale" on the side binding! Talk about getting ripped off.
