All the official emails I saw said 8. I got there at 7:50, and there were already people everywhere looking. I looked and looked, and found nothing. I didn't see a single egg that hadn't already been opened. Of the several people in my group, only one person got anything, and only because he happened to notice someone hiding eggs, and followed him.
Last year I got several candy bars and the iPod nano.

I don't know what they could have done differently though...
My thoughts exactly. Last year was so much better, but I can't quite figure out why.
I know last year they had less people hiding eggs, and the egg hiding didn't start until 8. This allowed for everyone who followed the rules about when to start to have a good time. Not to mention those of us hiding the eggs had a blast screwing with people who knew you were hiding eggs, so I'm going to assume that this made it more fun for others also.
Never participated in the hunt itself, just seen it in action a few times as I passed through campus, and have listened to the stories over the years... primarily bitching about people hunting before the event has started. Just makes me wonder if they ever considered holding it somewhere in which they can control access to the location? Perhaps a roped-off portion of campus, or maybe shutdown Havener or the Rec Center for a bit while they hide eggs? Maybe even hold it on the golf course (while it's still here)?

I think the times should be a little more secretive. Unless this person i saw was someone hiding the eggs, i saw a guy rooting around Parker at like 2 or 3 in the afternoon looking for eggs already. If they've been planted already, it would be unfair for someone to just go and get eggs hours before anyone else gets a chance. Or maybe postpone the official start 'til later in the evening so those people hiding eggs would have cover of darkness.
A few of my friends and i went walking around just to see how many people were out, and while walking around we heard some group say they'd been out since like 6:30 and already had a bag full of eggs, when i was told official start wasnt until 8:00.

And then you had the douchebags who would open storm drains (wtf in the first place) and LEAVE them open so people walking around in the dark could kill themselves - some of the holes were just big and deep enough to stick a leg in and break it. Then some more douchebags would come along and throw empty eggs in the storm drains to get their victims all excited, dirty, and disappointed. I like free candy but I doubt I'll be doing it again next year.
