I got a TomTom One 3rd Edition from Staples on Black Friday for ~$100. For the price I paid, I can't complain.

I got a Garmin c330 on black friday for $130 and I love it. From what I hear Garmin and Tom Tom are by far the best, but from my experience with my Garmin I'd recommend their brand based on my experience. The only downside that I've found is that the map update software costs 60-70 dollars (no matter which you buy) so eventually when you need to update the software its really not worth it if you paid what Colossians3 and I paid.

I'll be working on the Nuvi8xx series this summer... they're only about $1000...

I might get a discount (on all of the Garmin stuff) but I don't know how that will work yet.

Garmin is supposed to have ownership of a superior cartography group compared to Tom Tom. The software on Garmin GPS units is also supposed to default to a right turn entrance into the desired destination, whereas Tom Tom units just take you to your destination.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 350. It's great and I can carry it around as well. Doubles as an mp3 players.
The battery life is good. It's pretty cheap on amazon.

Also TomTom = European based
Garmin = USA

If you want better maps go with Garmin.

I have a $4 US Road Atlas and love it.

Map updates are about $4 and come out yearly.

I wouldn't go anywhere outside Missouri without it. (and perhaps also a little common sense)

I use a laptop with Microsoft Streets and Trips. Although, the maps haven't been updated since 2000.
