the umr.edu domain is no longer working. The last remaining part of UMR is gone May we please have a moment of silence in memory of University of Missouri-Rolla?
umr sucks. and so does mst. it's not dead... there will always be past students out there with a sub-standard education & memories of how much time they wasted here.
on a side note... i'd totally like to bang that chick in the pink shirt.

depends on your definition of top notch.
I stand by my previous statement
No matter what the name changes to

The name and the degree still aren't very well known outside of Missouri, and that's the difference
sorry if I come across as harsh, this place wasn't the school of choice on my roster
As someone who has actually left Rolla and worked in the field in other states, then returned to grad school, I can say that you don't know what you're talking about.
People in industry (at least, the mechanical engineering/aerospace engineering field) know who UMR is. They know that UMR produces some of the best ME/AE grads around.

mreh. you would know more than I would, I'm just going by what I hear. I've talked to a few former big ten professors this year who have convincing comparisons between UMR and places like UIUC, especially on the AE side of things, with it being crazy small here, but I suppose everyone's got an opinion. I keep hearing of a lot of people mistaking us for Mizzou too, but in all fairness Rolla's a lot like CNN, no one wants to hear the good news, only the bad. I haven't been far enough through this whole process to have a complete opinion, but I have enough to make an informed opinion. Again, it's just an opinion. Everyone's got em.
As far as gtfo goes, I tried that and its harder than it seems.

haha, I started an internet fight O:-)
So....any proof. Or are you saying that since you spoke to engineers from a company and none of them have heard of MSM/UMR/MST that nobody must have? Just curious.

Proof other than my word? No. It just seems to be a consistent theme, especially with the name change. I get a lot of 'Rolla? Where's that now?' I've known a girl who got accepted here by basically putting her name, information, and gender on the application without ACT/SAT scores, transcript, or really anything else (or so she claims) Specifically more recently, I took a class this summer taught by a former University of Illinois professor who had a hard time believing me telling him AE in Rolla only goes up to Thermo 1 (219), cause apparently AE most other places goes up usually past Thermo 2, among other things. I don't have the time or interest to really do research to follow up on that, but if you want examples. I'm not so ignorant as to make sweeping generalizations like that.
Its not really a big deal, I didn't think I'd launch this whole discussion. Also, I'm done trolling this thread O:-)
