Talking about the questionaire thing. Kinda boring, but hell, we are on torrent freak. Also, they mention alot of ways that people could try to get around it, without realizing that people are/did do most of them. From what I have heard about karl, it is hard to beat him without getting into really real trouble.

Yeah, it's hard to beat Karl. If you beat him, it will be temporary and you'll regret it later.
Is the questionaire thing that bad though? Seems like it's a better policy than what most schools have, which is absolutely no P2P, no ifs, ands or buts, no exceptions.
Karl's not infallible, but I have to say, he's very good at what he does. Also, we're lucky to have someone like him. As Devil said, we're lucky we can still apply to torrent legal things.
That being said, bittorrent still works pretty well in the dorms. So does OpenVPN. There are plenty of solutions that DPI doesn't work very well on. For starters I'd suggest reading about your operating system's network timing ( linux = iptables/sysctl, windows = some unholy reghax). Ever tried connecting over port 53(DNS)? I haven't found an ISP yet who blocks it outbound. The previous bandwidth throttler was vulnerable to too much data coming in. Here's an email from the old automated mailer.
If you have to live in the dorms, there's ways around these things. However, I'd have to say its far easier to move off-campus...FTW!

Eh - in the dorms they'd just roll it up with all your other fees. Besides what you're paying for there is an "always on" connection, not a connection that gets shitty because Karl is having a bad day. The cost of reliable is is really high (sarcasm) - although i've yet to meet someone living outside the dorms and paying more to live off campus.
