I was walking last night and there was this crazy noise that would sound like a rice rocket charging up, but is loud like a siren. It's obviously some sort of machine. I've been here for a whole year and have never heard it, but then again that's when I was in TJ, not the Quad. Anybody know?

I heard it walking back from a meeting. No clue what it was. Sounded like a motorcycle stuck in its tracks. Maybe a saw of some kind? Might have been coming from the rear entrances to the ME shops. My money is that it had something to do with Formula Car. Probably nothing too interesting, like the Tau Beta Sigma statue being sawed in half or something.

Indeed. It's certainly happening right now and sounds a lot like an engine, but really doesn't sound like it changes gears or anything.

Yes, those responsible for the noise are the FSAE kids. We just got our engine dyno running again, and you will surely hear it between the hours of 4:30pm and 11(ish)pm (that's when we are allowed to run it) in the upcoming weeks. We are entering a time of serious engine development for our car for our upcoming cometition in May. For those interested, the engine is a 1999-2002 spec Yamaha YZF-R6. Engines being loaded on the dyno generally sound a lot different than they do in a vehicle. Come by our shop and check it out sometime.

Patrick, you're thinking of Tau Beta Pi. They have the little brass thingy in front of the Library.
They're an honor society/fraternity.

Tau Beta Sigma is the co-ed band sorority. No brass thingy.
