I liked the fact that it had the 5.7 ls1 with the t56 6 speed, anyone else notice the electronic fly-by-wire throttle? Interior looked good, functional. Trim doesn't look cheap like most gm cars.
Was I the only person who thought it was the most bland looking car ever exterior-wise? Gm took a austrailian made holden monaro and slapped a new sticker on the back. I thought it was a RWD v8 cavalier at first glance.
Yeah, I saw the GTO in the parking lot, looks like every other Pontiac from the front with its bland styling. I honestly thought it was a Sunfire until I saw the GTO lettering. But next to it was the new Corvette C6 which is a beautiful car

Drive by wire sucks!
I have to agree here. I like the idea of having fully mechanical devices controlling the various operations of my vehicle. If my alternator was to fail, and the battery slowly died on my way home, I wonder which system will fail first...
If they make fly-by-wire brakes, I am gonna have to protest. I am a EE, but I don't have THAT much faith in electricity.

Supposedly, the drive-by-wire system on the trucks (namley the 8.1 litre heavy duty equipped trucks) will not allow the engine to reach full throttle unless it is pulling a load. I don't like that. Complete, mechanical control is the way to go.

haven't some chevy trucks had fly-by-wire brakes for several years now? there is an infrared detector to tell how far you've depressed the brake, and the computer tells the brake cylinder how much to pressurize.

my dad has 2001 chevy with the 8.1 and as far as i know there is no drive by wire but i could be mistaken
I might be mistaken, but don't all the companies that introduce Drive-by-wire systems say that DBW reacts and responds faster than a mechanical system? Not letting the engine go to full power has its reasons, like protecting the engine and saving fuel, I'm sure there won't be that restriction in a 'Vette or the GTO. I look at it this way, it's easier for me to figure out and mod, because I've taken some CpE classes too. And if it does indeed respond faster than a mechanical system, which it does, because it gets rid of the unsprung weight on the throttle. The heavier the linkage, the more lag there is, w/o any linkage weight, the throttle responds faster. I'm pretty sure Boeing and other airplanes have had DBW for a while now, about time it came to cars on a mass scale.
True misuse of EE/CpE in cars is BMW's iDrive system, I don't want one screen and one button with 700 functions, just because BMW wants to save some money, instead of spending money on designing a functional and elegant interior.

My dad has a 2004 2500HD duramax and it had by wire brakes and accleration. When he first got it, he didn't know it and went to accelerate out of the parking lot, pressed it down, and it went all the way to the floor, peeling out of the parking lot. Oops.

personally, i think it looks like every other pontiac out there...especially grand am/prix, bonneville. They really need to look at different body styles. I know i would have done something different if I were gonna relaunch the GTO. On the other hand, there is one around campus. It purrs quite nicely. The C6 was definitely nice...it has a G-sensor so you can see how many G's you are pulling while driving
